I got the chance to catch up on Class 3A action during the Area tournament and ran came across a couple of players that were huge difference-makers for their teams and outright and standouts in high school basketball, regardless of their class.
Juan Dominguez: Hennessey, Shooting Guard.
Domingues isn’t the guy for Hennessey that receives the most attention, and he’s not physically imposing, but he has a strap on him (‘strap’ means he has a great shot). That was on display on Thursday night in Hennessey’s matchup against Community Christian. Every three except one went in for him and he’s the primary reason why his team was competitive in this elimination game. Dominguez scored a team-high 23 of Hennessey’s 33 points, but Hennessey wasn’t able to overcome CCS’s balanced scoring attack, losing 48-33.
Aidan Big Soldier: Riverside Indian School, Guard/Forward.
Big Soldier was one of the best players I’ve seen play this season, and he’s flown completely under the radar. It’s baffling knowing that he hasn’t gotten a ton of looks this season and it’s even more surprising how no one has paid much attention to the Riverside Braves.
Big Soldier’s shot is extremely pure. There are few players in Oklahoma high school basketball with the ability to shoot like him from anywhere on the court. Big Soldier scored 21 points in Riverside’s win over Prague on Thursday night. Unfortunately, Riverside’s season ended the next day after losing to Community Christian.
