The 2019-20 season was filled with dominant big men in New Jersey. Kentucky commit [player_tooltip player_id="766063" first="Lance" last="Ware"] was named NJ.com’s Player of the Year after leading Camden to a 29-1 record, a South Jersey Group 2 title and a top 20 national ranking. Roselle Catholic’s [player_tooltip player_id="850316" first="Cliff" last="Omoruyi"] was named Gatorade Player of the Year as he led the Lions to their third consecutive Non-Public B North title. He was the top uncommitted player in the state before committing to Rutgers on Sunday. Here are the top available big men in the 2020 class.

[player_tooltip player_id="850331" first="Mounir" last="Hima"], 6’11 C St. Benedict’s

The Grey Bees were led by senior guards [player_tooltip player_id="850348" first="Adetokundo" last="Bakare"] and [player_tooltip player_id="850349" first="E.J." last="Evans"], but Hima was the one who controlled the paint. The Niger native uses his length and athleticism to alter shots around the rim. Hima has nice footwork in the post and knows how to finish around the rim. He plays with constant energy and is unafraid to get physical in the paint. Hima is a D1 caliber player who could create an immediate impact with his shot-blocking.

[player_tooltip player_id="850399" first="Danny" last="Oravbiere"], 6’6 PF Payne Tech

Oravbiere may not be the biggest power forward in the state, but he still creates an impact down low. The 6’6 power forward was one of the top shot-blockers this past season due to his combination of length and timing. Oravbiere is also a good on-ball post defender and a rugged rebounder. He has a nice touch around the basket and is a capable passer in the post. Oravbiere’s energy and work ethic makes him a tough player to keep off the floor as a freshman.

[player_tooltip player_id="896467" first="Oumar" last="Diahame"], 6’10 C Patrick School National

Patrick School National has been one of the top prep schools in New Jersey all season due to Diahame’s presence down low. The Senegalese native is a big-time shot-blocker with his combination of size, length, timing and athleticism. Diahame has good footwork down low and has a nice touch on his shot. He is a good rebounder and can set a good screen in a half-court set. Diahame is a solid big man prospect who creates an impact on both ends of the floor.

[player_tooltip player_id="896468" first="Tyje" last="Kelton"], 6’5 PF Dunellen

Kelton is more of a small forward, but his ability to damage down low makes him available for this list. The Destroyer’s all-time leading scorer can handle the ball on the perimeter and beat his man off the bounce. Kelton knows how to draw contact around the basket and can create space for himself in the mid-range. He is also a skilled passer and tough rebounder down low. Kelton’s all-around skill set makes him one of the most interesting available forward prospects in the 2020 class.

[player_tooltip player_id="896471" first="Derrell" last="Jones Jr"]., 6’8 PF Olympus Prep

Olympus Prep has a lot of quality big men, but Jones Jr. stands out because of his toughness. The 6’8 forward likes to be physical down low and scraps for rebounds. Jones Jr. can finish through contact and knows how to create space for himself down low. He is a solid post defender and underrated passer. Jones Jr. plays hard on every possession, a trait that should give him a lot of playing time early in his college career.
