Jevan Boyton – 2021 – SF – Madison East
The Purgolders struggled to score the ball in a loss to Marian Catholic, but Boyton showed some good flashes. The junior wing has terrific size (6-5) and is a fluid athlete. Boyton can put the ball on the deck and his athletic measurables to his advantage. I like the way he runs the floor and can hunt easy buckets in transition. Haven’t seen a lot of this prospect yet, but he appears to be someone just scratching the surface of his potential.
Johnny Davis – 2020 – SG – La Crosse Central
The Wisconsin commit just continues to have a dominant senior season. Davis needed 28 minutes to drop 28 points, 15 rebounds, and 9 assists in Saturday’s blowout win over DeKalb, who came in with a 15-2 record. Davis was 14-of-16 from the field and continued to shoot lights out from mid-range, while simply over-powering people near the rim. A tenacious, athletic prospect that’s getting better and better, Davis is playing the best ball of his life.
Kody Krekling – 2021 – SG – The Prairie School
The junior guard poured in a game-high 27 points to lead The Prairie School to a win over Chicago Perspectives. Krekling just caught fire from downtown, hitting five 3-pointers. Krekling does a good job of moving without the basketball and can set his feet and fire at a quick pace. Krekling has good size at 6-foot-3 and is more than just a sniper. He grabbed nine rebounds and dished out two assists on Saturday. Not currently ranked, Krekling has a strong build and is more athletic than he looks, able to get to the hoop when defenders overplay him on the perimeter.
Max Kunnert – 2021 – SG – Brookfield Academy
Back from injury, Kunnert had 16 points in a loss to New Trier. While there was some visible rust, including a few uncharacteristic turnovers, Kunnert seemed to get more comfortable as the game wore on and helped Brookfield Academy make a late run. A top 25 prospect in the 2021 class, Kunnert has a great feel for scoring the basketball. The 6-foot-3 guard has a sweet stroke from beyond the arc and is crafty when it comes to getting to the hoop. Kunnert does a great job of scoring within the system, but in AAU we’ve seen plenty of occasions where he can score in isolation settings and put a team on his back. We’ll see what transpires this spring/summer, but Kunnert looks a Division 2 talent that should get some scholarship looks.
Ben Nau – 2021 – G – Brookfield Central
Nau had a game-high 19 points in a win over Deerfield. The junior guard made the opposition pay for playing a zone and went 5-of-8 from 3-point range. Nau also posted seven assists and five rebounds. A tenacious defender, Nau frustrated his opponent’s with in-your-shorts defense. He plays physical without fouling and just does a great job of disrupting the flow of the other team. He also had three steals in Saturday’s win.
Antuan Nesbitt – 2021 – G/W – The Prairie School
Nesbitt continues to be one of the more intriguing prospects in the 2021 class. The 6-foot-4 junior plays a variety of different roles and positions. Nesbitt plays a little point guard, slashes to the bucket, distributes the basketball, and is shooting the ball really well from 3-point and mid-range. Chipping in with 18 points in a win over Chicago Perspectives, Nesbitt picked his spots really well. The opposition often face-guarded him and picked him up the entire length of the floor. Still, Nesbitt didn’t force anything and was 7-of-11 shooting. He had a complete game with seven rebounds and five assists.
Andrew Rohde – 2022 – SG – Brookfield Central
Rhode had the hot hand early and hit a couple of triples against Deerfield’s zone. The sophomore guard would finish with 14 points and hit four 3-pointers. Rhode did a great job of sharing the basketball as well and finding his teammates in the soft spots of the zone. He dished out a game-high seven assists and also had a number of ‘hockey assists’, taking advantage of defenders who flew out to him on the perimeter and got the defense out of their lanes. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard also grabbed eight rebounds in the win.
Colin Schaefer – 2020 – PG – Sun Prairie
Sun Prairie drilled Antioch and put the game away before the first half even ended, going into the locker room with a 45-14 lead. Schaefer scored 10 points in short order. The junior guard does a great job of running his team. Schaefer plays with excellent pace and orchestrates terrific ball movement on the floor. He’s also developed into a killer offensively, a guy who can put the ball in the hole without wasting a lot of dribbles and is extremely comfortable with the mid-range pull-up. Schaefer has a Division 2 offer from Northern Michigan and a junior college offer from Highland.
