Despite it being a rivalry, Heritage Hall entered the game with aspirations to sweep the season series between the two teams. Those aspirations dwindled as quickly as Trey Alexander fell to the ground with what seemed to be a significant ankle injury. He left the court with the help of a trainer and his father and was in visible pain. At that point, the Falcons had all the momentum and the Chargers looked like they knew they were losing the game.
They were well on their way as Millwood got off to a 9-3 lead late in the first and ended the quarter up 13-8…but Alexander checked back into the game and seemed to be relatively healthy.
In the second quarter, Heritage Hall rekindled that fire that they had at the start, led by a seemingly rejuvenated Alexander, fresh off rolling his ankle. It was a show as he netted two threes, got to the basket numerous times and made three trips to the free-throw line en route to a 17-point quarter.
Alexander went into the half with 19 points.
The second half was much of the same for Heritage Hall as they capitalized on their 1-point halftime lead, thus building more momentum. Alexander was still a huge factor, but it was more so by him getting his teammates involved. As opposed to the second quarter where he scored 17 of his team’s 20 points, 10 of the team’s 17 points in the third quarter came from sophomore joe Washington, junior Miles Perry, and Kenneth Doughty. Alexander assisted on three of those buckets or better yet, six of those points.
After doing that damage, the Chargers led by 10 points and Millwood’s crowd, and the team seemed to lose their drive and motivation. Alexander finished Friday night’s game with 36 points and the Chargers defeated Millwood for the third time this season, 65-52.
