2023 Class Rankings: The Top 10

It’s early in their careers and they’re about to finish their Freshman seasons in high school and head into their 15u AAU seasons. There is sure to be huge movement up and down the list over the years as we get eyes on more players. We start our list with 30 players. Here are the top 10 in the inaugural 2023 class rankings.

[player_tooltip player_id="932764" first="Kaleb" last="Glenn"], Male - One of the top players on one of the top teams in the state, Glenn is physically superior to almost every opponent he comes across, regardless of their age. He’s 6’6 and his upper body is built like someone at the college level. His ultimate potential as a college prospect depends on if he will continue to grow and if he will keep developing perimeter skills. As a post player right now, he is the state leader in field goal percentage and a dunking machine. As he develops, he could be a big time wing forward prospect.

[player_tooltip player_id="932765" first="Reed" last="Sheppard"], North Laurel - Sheppard likely has the most hype of any prospect in the class and much of it is deserved. His parents were stars at Kentucky and Reed has already scored over 1,000 career points in his high school career. As a prospect, Reed is athletic but not necessarily a point guard long term. He could be best served playing off the ball as a downhill attacker. Sheppard is shooting 32% from three on the season and will surely get better as his game matures. Look for him to become a high major prospect, assuming he grows a couple more inches. Given his pedigree, there will be people clamoring for Kentucky to get involved in his recruitment before long.

[player_tooltip player_id="932766" first="Gabe" last="Sisk"], Ballard - Sisk is not nearly as heralded as Glenn or Sheppard but could be the best prospect in the class, long term. Already battle tested by playing against the best guards in Louisville night in and night out, Gabe has gone up against some of the best players in the state over the course of the season and not faltered. He especially shined at the King of the Bluegrass at Christmastime. Sisk has to improve his shooting efficiency in the long term, especially as a three point shooter but at 33% from three, he isn’t a bad shooter. In a class that is very heavy on guards, Sisk stands out as one of the best right now.

[player_tooltip player_id="932767" first="Jacob" last="Meyer"], Covington Holy Cross - Meyer is a whole lot like Sisk. Both are good prospects who are putting up numbers in their freshman season. Meyer is having to be the go to scorer for Holy Cross early in his career which means he’s having to take on the opposition’s top defender every game and as a result, his shooting numbers are a little lower than Sisk’s. Jacob is the better athlete of the two but they are essentially the same type of player as slashing combo guards. Their progression is going to be fun to watch and both are likely to remain near the top of the list in 2023 over the next few years.

[player_tooltip player_id="932768" first="Colin" last="Porter"], Ashland Blazer - Porter has been a known commodity in the class for quite a while as he started his career at Elliott County and was a starter there as an 8th grader last season. His transfer to Ashland Blazer has helped propel an undefeated season thus far and only 2 games away from a 28-0 regular season. Colin is leading his team in rebounds per game as a point guard and is the best outside shooter thus far in the list, shooting 41% from three this season. His ultimate ceiling will be determined on if he grows a couple more inches and if he can guard his position against elite athletes. He’ll have the chance to prove that this spring and summer as part of the Canadian AAU team he plays with on the Adidas 3SSB circuit.

[player_tooltip player_id="932769" first="Dallas" last="Roberts"], North Oldham - Dallas is another player in this class who is already on his second year as a varsity starter. Roberts became a secondary weapon on offense this year with the return of [player_tooltip player_id="716839" first="Justin" last="Powell"] to the Mustangs. Since Powell’s season ending surgery, Dallas has gone right back to the primary facilitator for his team. Roberts has been shooting the ball well as he checks in at 45% from the field, 43% from three and 84% from the free throw line. Dallas is not an explosive athlete but is a very skilled player with a high basketball IQ and is definitely a player to keep an eye on in the class.

[player_tooltip player_id="932770" first="Trey" last="Skaggs"], Madison Central - Trey doesn’t possess the gaudy stats of the players ahead of him but he does have a chance to surpass them as a prospect if he continues to grow physically and develop his game as a wing forward. One thing that coach Feldhaus has shown over the years is that he is an excellent developer of talent and Skaggs has a chance to be really good. It will be interesting to see how he plays against players his own age in AAU this upcoming spring and summer as I think he could be the type to have a much bigger summer than what his high school stats may show.

[player_tooltip player_id="932771" first="Ryan" last="Davidson"], North Laurel - Davidson takes a backseat to Sheppard at North Laurel but his potential is just as high. Two years ago, Ryan was basically a post player and he was worked hard to transition to the wing over the last two years. He’s shooting 59% from the field but is really struggling from distance, where he is only 4/24 on the season. If he can keep developing and become a knockdown shooter from distance, his stock will keep rising over the course of his career.

[player_tooltip player_id="932772" first="Jack" last="Edelen"], Ballard - Another talented young member of the Ballard roster, Edelen spends the majority of his time running the point for Coach Renner’s offense. One of his most impressive skills is Jack’s ability to make extremely tough shots. He makes up for his lack of size by being a proficient scorer when taking and making tough shots. Whether it’s a runner off the glass from an awkward angle or a floater over a bigger defender, Edelen can score the ball all over the court. As a 44% three point shooter, he’s also one of the best shooters in the class. His ultimate ceiling as a college prospect will be determined by his continued growth and development but at the very least, Jack is going to be a top 2023 guard in Louisville for the next few years.

[player_tooltip player_id="932773" first="Keith" last="Robinson"], DeSales - Robinson is a little under the radar because he plays alongside [player_tooltip player_id="922992" first="Sekou" last="Kalle"] but his numbers are among the best in the city for Freshmen. Keith averages 13 points and 7 rebounds per game for the Colts and should continue to see his stock rise as his role at DeSales continues to increase over the next few seasons. Robinson’s biggest attributes are his toughness and motor. If he grows to be a 6’7 or bigger player, he’ll find himself with several college options because of how hard he plays.
