I recently published my 1000th article with Prep Hoops and Prep Girls Hoops combined. It has been an awesome experience, traveling the country and watching players from Michigan to South Carolina to Texas and back. I’ve seen kids battling just to get a look from a college coach to young men showing me piles of offers. In honor of all of you allowing me to write 1000 articles, I’m going to give you 10 sophomores that will play college basketball someday. The players will be from various positions and skill levels, but all have the potential to play at the next level.
Emoni Bates (G/F, Ypsilanti-Lincoln)
This is about as obvious as it gets, but you just can’t leave Bates off the list. He’s growing and maturing even more as a leader and a defender.
Ben Canty (SF, Salem)
He’s a smooth athlete that rises on his jumper. Canty can shoot over most opponents.
Ethan Crabtree (F, Coldwater)
Crabtree has a solid mental game. He seems to understand the ebbs and flows that a game takes. This combined with his well rounded game could get him on a college basketball court.
JaVaughn Hannah (SG, Mt. Clemens)
Hannah is a top 100 prospect in the country in the class of 2022. Screenshot this and show it to me in a few years when he’s leading a college team to a conference title or an NCAA tournament run. Hannah flat out gets buckets.
Orlando Lovejoy (PG, Romulus Summit Academy)
Lovejoy is one of the most explosive sophomores in the state. He’s a D1 talent and his name will continue to rise as people see the quickness and finishing ability that he has.
Xander Middleton (SG, Monroe)
Middleton is full of potential. He’s smart with the ball and a multi level scorer. As he adds muscle and grooves his 3 point shot, college coaches will be scrambling for him.
Ty Rodgers (SF, Grand Blanc)
This is another obvious one. Rodgers has star potential at the next level. He’s the type of athletic wing that can make college coaches update their ring size.
Nick Stump (PF, Grand Haven)
This young man could hit a college basketball court with his grit and toughness alone. Stump picks up put back buckets and has a nice mid range game.
Kyler Vanderjagt (G/F, Northview)
Vanderjagt needs to be on D1 radars. He has a college ready physique already. Vanderjagt is a 3 level scorer and a matchup nightmare for opponents.
Chansey Willis (PG, Detroit King)
Willis is a special type of floor general. Yeah, he has all the athleticism and skills of a great young player, but his game is way more than that. It’s so polished and mature for an underclassman.
