The junior guard has proven time and time again how comfortable he has been with the basketball in his hands, as well as taking a role off the ball. With an ability to push the ball up the court with his excellent agility and finishing in traffic with his elite athleticism, Cortes is ready to compete with anybody a team may put in front of him. His quick crossover and a sneaky hesitation make Cortes’ ball control define him as one of the hardest to guard in the state.
Cortes makes as big difference on the defensive end of the ball too. Keeping his hands active in passing lanes and making deflections, he can proceed to get out in transition, using his athleticism to throw down rim-rocking dunks that bring an immediate boost to his team’s energy and confidence.
Cortes had a huge summer with Team Griffin 16U, breaking out into the recruitment scene with his excellent performance in the EYBL circuit. He competed against elite players and showed his ability to hang with the best.
Prep Hoops reached out and he told us that his “main goal really is to win state” he further went on to say his “decision to go to OU was a great one for me, I believe and I can’t wait to get down there and make a statement. I thank my friends and family for always pushing me to be the best person I can be.” He continued by sharing gratitude for his teammates and coaches at Kingfisher and with the Team Griffin program. Cortes proclaims that he is “110% committed” and thanks Coach Kruger for believing in his future.
Expect to see Cortes in the Big House once again, taking the role of a leader alongside teammate Matthew Stone.
