Here are the standouts:
Christian Cook 2020 Midwest City
Cook is one of the most talented players in the 2020 class of Oklahoma. His athleticism and ability to score make him a very sought after prospect.
Against Deer Creek, Cook did a great job of keeping a balance of being aggressive but also letting his teammates time with the basketball.
What makes Cook special is he can be a pure point at times but also take over a game with a scorers mindset.
He played more point against DC as some of his teammates had a mismatch and he did a good job of setting them up for success.
He has a great first step which leaves the defender trying to catch up and their teammates trying to help over which allows Cook to carve up the defense with his passing.
DC couldn’t do anything to stay in front of Cook and company and that’s why they dominated on Day 2.
Makale Smith 2021 Midwest City
Smith has all the physical tools of a talented defensive back. The speed side to side and the ability to change directions in tight spaces.
Add some crafty ball handing and the ability to finish around the rim and you have a quality guard.
Smith was a constant headache for the DC defense as he continually got by his initial defender and finished at the cup. He was efficient and never seemed out of control with the ball in his hands.
The junior guard didn’t let up in the second half which broke the game open. His corner three in the third ended any realistic chance of a DC comeback.
Smith is a guard prospect to keep your eye out on this year and in the future.
Jerry Tullis 2020 Deer Creek
Deer Creek lacks a multitude of weapons on the offensive side of the ball this year.
Once again Tullis has had to step and carry a lot of the shot-making and shot-creating responsibilities. In doing so, it has been a great showcase for others to see his diverse skill set.
Every night now Tullis is being guarded by the other team’s best defender.
Against MWC it was no different as he had to constantly bring the ball up against athletes who have been drilled by their coaches to keep him in front.
DC’s best moments against MWC was when Tullis was more aggressive as a scorer.
The game was cut to a six point lead for MWC when Tullis hit back-to-back threes which felt like it changed the momentum of the contest.
Ben White 2020 Edmond Memorial
White is the X-factor for the Bulldogs this season.
If he is playing well then most likely the starters are going to be resting in the fourth quarter because are going to get ugly.
He is a legitimate 6’5 shooting guard in a high school stretch forward’s body. His wiry frame allows him to be a weapon for the Bulldogs defensively.
White got off to a great start against Trinity Christian. He seemed to always be in the right place on offense. He has a good feel for playing with great players.
As a wing playing off Pedulla and Seat, White seems to always maneuver himself towards the basket to end up with an open layup.
The Bulldogs destroyed Trinity Christian in every aspect of the game and White’s great start one of the reasons why.
CJ Campbell 2020 Edmond Memorial
As usual Campbell seemed to be having the most fun out there. His energy on the floor is contagious. He plays with a joy that is refreshing.
However, don’t let the emotions fool you. Campbell can hoop and he showed it against Trinity. He got to the rim at will and showed off some nice touch with a beautiful floater.
His biggest contribution was on defense as he was a pest for any ball handler. He put on a clinic on how to completely takeaway the other team’s point guard.
This past summer we saw Campbell take a massive jump as an overall player and it has carried over to his performances for the Bulldogs.
He is playing with great confidence on the offensive side of the ball which makes things alot easier for Pedulla and Seat.
Colleges should be inquiring about Campbell at the D2 or NAIA level.
