Tuesday night showcased some Central Oregon high school basketball action as the Santiam Christian Eagles took on the Harrisburg Eagles at home. The affair was a tactical, low scoring battle as each team took the first half to figure one another out. Santiam Christian exhibited the twin towers of Koby Williamson and Joe Maqatish plus the quick talented guard Ben Galceran, whom kept them competitive in the game throughout the night. However, the steadfast, blue-collar combination of Tyler Baker, Trey Cabb, Tyler Thompson, and Jack Meadows provided the Eagles with a well oiled machine that handled business, playing tough defense as well as perimeter and inside scoring. At half-time the score was 26-20 in favor of Harrisburg, but it was Santiam Christian’s Galceran that was the spark plug for Santiam Christian in the second half, going unconscious from downtown in the corner spot. However, Harrisburg’s overall team play, particularly, defense, smothered Santiam’s big men all night, disrupting them enough to hold them off and seal the night with a 52-41 victory. Here are the player standouts from last night’s game.
Ben Galceron (Santiam Christian HS) – the agile, quick, senior guard was the leader for the Eagles all night, as he paced them during the second half. Ben wasted no time during halftime, warming up his three-point shot, as it showed when the game resumed play. He mirrored the weather conditions during the day, as he made it rain from downtown all second half, finding his rhythm and spot in the corner. His efforts fell short, though, he made a mark on everybody in attendance, finishing with a game high 22 points.
Koby Williamson (Santiam Christian HS) – the senior big has been receiving college interest as of late and for good reason. His simple presence in the paint is difficult for opponents to deal with at this level and he is still developing as an athlete and learning the game. Koby’s biggest attributes to his game are his inside scoring, rebounding, and defense. He can play in the high post and find others for an easy score or play in the post and score it himself. Williamson finished the night with 8 points, 8 rebounds, 2 blocks, 4 assists, and 2 steals.
Tyler Thompson (Harrisburg HS) – the senior guard seemed to have his hand in every play for the Eagles, as he provided them with a defensive minded presence with the ability to rebound as well. Tyler wasn’t afraid to drive in and finish through contact and made outside shots as well. Late game, he also sealed free throw after free throw to extend the lead and encapsulate the victory for Harrisburg. Finished with a team-high 18 points and 8 rebounds.
Jack Meadows (Harrisburg HS) – the 6’5” senior was a jack of all trades for Harrisburg, playing an incredibly all around game for the Eagles. Meadows helped contain Santiam’s two towering forwards all night, helped move the ball around, and could be counted on to score when they needed it. Meadows found nifty ways to score, acting as a catalyst for Harriburg they looked for a way to put the ball in the basket. He sunk some three-pointers, showing off his range and finished with 13 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals.
