Here are five standouts from the matchup:
Sean Pedulla 2021 Edmond Memorial
Pedulla was the only player outside of JV Seat to get going in the first half.
DC built their game plan around stopping the dynamic guard so he had to find different ways to score.
Pedulla got two break away layups off of his steals in the open floor. He scored 9 points in the first half.
The game was dicey there for a sec for the Bulldogs but Pedulla took over the third quarter and broke DC’s momentum.
He finished with 23 points and he only hit two threes. He lived in the painted area and finished plays with contact. His late free throws put the nail in the coffin for DC.
Jalyn Todd 2020 Deer Creek
You can tell Todd was ready and excited for this matchup against premier big man JV Seat. It was a matchup that was going to be key to decide who came out with the victory.
Both are built to hold their own in the painted area. At 6’5, Todd can be a physical mismatch for most teams.
From the beginning, Todd was aggressive when getting the ball on the block. He even showed off his improved jumper from three and midrange.
DC did a good job with their post passing and leading Todd to the rim to finish the play.
The athletic senior finished with 11 points and he showed up to play despite the loss.
JV Seat 2022 Edmond Memorial
Seat is a fun player to watch because he plays with a high motor, has skills on the block, and he welcomes contact.
There aren’t many bigs with those three skills anymore. He has been taught well as he always catches the ball in the post and looks middle to see if their is a double.
He showed that he has the ability to be a good passer out of the post which only make the Bulldogs more dangerous on offense.
Seat never forced it against DC. It always feels like he is under control
With Pedulla playing well, Seat wasn’t asked to go off but when he got his opportunity he took advantage.
Seat scored an efficient 13 points and did a good job on the defensive glass.
Jerry Tullis 2020 Deer Creek
One of my favorite point guards to watch play in the state. He looks like running back and his quickness makes you think he just stepped off the gridiron.
So many point guards pound the basketball and really don’t know what to do with it.
Tullis is a very deliberate floor general who adds flash when it’s needed but always knows what play he wants to make.
His creativity with ball is up there with the best.
He made some passes out of the pick and roll that even college players would be impressed with. When playing with Tullis, you are always a threat to score due to his elite passing ability.
If your a local D2 there is no reason not to have this kid on your radar.
`Keyshon Spotwood 2021 Edmond Memorial
Spotwood had a quite night scoring but was affective in many different aspects of the game to help Memorial finish with the victory.
As usual, Spotwood was an energetic defender who was able to get out into passing lanes and create turnovers. He is only about 6’1 however his wingspan kind of sneaks up on his opposition.
The junior also did a good job of cleaning up the offensive glass from the backside. There were numerous times where DC would do a good job defending the Bulldogs set play and a contested shot would go up only to be tipped back in by Spotwood. Back breaking plays which kill any sign of momentum.
Players like Spotwood and CJ Campbell are going to need to continue to step throughout the season as more and more teams are building their game plans to stop Pedulla and Seat.
Both players have shown the ability to take the game over in small spurts and to change the entire complexion of a ball game with their contagious energy level on both ends.
