Zion Harmon, Marshall County – Regardless of where you look, Harmon is a top recruit in the country. He’s already narrowed his recruitment down to a small group of schools and is rumored to be reclassing to the 2020 class and going to college next year.
Ben Johnson, Lexington Catholic – The first member of the class to commit to a college, Johnson is headed to Bellarmine University. In the meantime, he’s having a big Junior year, averaging 25.2 points while posting shooting splits of 50/40/84 and leading his team in rebounding at 6 per game.
Isaiah Mason, Bowling Green – The wing has been forced to play out of position as a forward a lot this season but that has helped him put up impressive rebounding numbers and a string of double doubles. The next step in his progression will be if he can become a more confident three point shooter as he’s only shot 40 threes this season. If he gets more confident in his shot from distance, he could become a big time recruit this summer.
Jaden Rogers, Fern Creek – Jaden’s skill level is off the charts and he added a little bit more edge to his game over the last year or so as he has become more of an alpha dog for one of the best teams in the state. At his best in an up and down system, Rogers has great court vision and can score the ball at all 3 levels.
Zek Montgomery, Fern Creek – If you’re looking for a player who could have the recruiting “blow up” this summer, Montgomery is probably the best choice. He’s big and strong with great length and athleticism. Basically everything mid and high major coaches are looking for. He’s a lot like Isaiah Mason in that he needs to become more confident in his jump shot to reach that next level of recruitment.
JaQuais Franklin, Elizabethtown – Franklin is right on the heels of Rogers as top point guard in the class. Franklin is wired to score and is at his best when he can get into the paint and either finish or kick to an open teammate. JaQuais holds one D1 offer right now and could end the AAU season with several if all goes well for the 6’2 PG from E-Town.
Scotty Draud, Beechwood – Draud is the type of prospect that coaches love on the wing. At 6’6 he has great size for a shooting guard but will need to prove he can be a more efficient scorer to impress coaches this spring and summer. He’s top 10 in the state in scoring and is averaging over 7 rebounds per game but Scotty will need to be a more efficient player to get the D1 offers that kids covet.
DeAjuan Stepp, West Jessamine – Another wing who needs to improve his efficiency but has a ton of potential, Stepp has really struggled to score the ball from deep as he’s only 9/52 from three for the season. That’s the biggest hole in his game and at 6’5 and able to get into the lane at about any time, coaches should take note of the young man from Nicholasville.
Sekou Kalle, DeSales – A bit of a mystery man, Sekou came from Texas to Aspire Academy last year and now is enrolled at DeSales after moving from Aspire. When he was younger, Kalle claimed offers from schools like UCLA and he could wind up that level of player eventually. Right now the 6’9 Kalle is having a big year for the Colts and posting a double-double each night out.
Darrius Washington, Fern Creek – Not many players in Kentucky possess the skill level that Darrius has at his size. Washington has long been mentioned among the best in the class but he hasn’t gotten the opportunity some other players get as he plays for a loaded Fern Creek roster. This summer is a big one for all of these Juniors but Darrius especially could be a big surprise to coaches if he goes out and shows exactly what he’s capable of.
