Caden Hough – 2020 – W – Waunakee
There was a time in the second half where Hough was just not missing. Monroe was surging early in the second half, scoring just about every time down. However, they weren’t fully able to get back into the game due to Hough’s shooting. The senior wing finished with 17 points on five 3-pointers. Hough found the soft spots on the perimeter all night. Playing off his teammates, Hough would simply wait for a defensive breakdown to occur, recognize it, and exploit it by moving without the basketball and giving his guards and easy to target for catch-and-shoot opportunities.
Andrew Keller – 2022 – F – Waunakee
Based on Thursday, we don’t have Keller ranked high enough. The 6-foot-6 sophomore was terrific, leading Waunakee to what would probably classify as a surprise win. Keller was aggressive from the beginning and never slowed down. He gave Monroe all sorts of problems on the offensive glass and hit big shots in the second half, just about every time it looked like the Cheesemakers were going to make their move. Keller is a versatile big who can handle and shoot the basketball. He excels at pulling bigs away from the rim and sizing them up with either pull-up 3-pointers or drives to the rim. Keller finished with a team-high 19 points in Thursday’s win.
Carson Leuzinger – 2022 – G – Monroe
Waunakee had Leuzinger scouted pretty well, always sitting on his left hand. When Leuzinger put the ball on the deck, every Warrior coach on the bench was urging Leuzinger’s defender to not go for the pump fake. Still, the sophomore guard chipped in with 15 points, including a nice spurt in the second half to help Monroe pull within one score after they trailed by as many as 12. Although he’s an isolation scorer, Leuzinger did a great job of playing through Monroe’s system. At times, he really feasted off their sets where the Cheesemakers are looking to get Meyer a post touch. Leuzinger counts on his man digging or taking away a passing lane off the ball where he can then get a clean look at the rim.
Cade Meyer – 2021 – PF – Monroe
While he had to sit out a chunk of the first half due to foul trouble, Meyer finished with a game-high 24 points. For the most part, Meyer did what we thought he would do in this game, but also continues to show some new wrinkles. Meyer looked better and more fluid shooting off the bounce and also was running off screens for catch and shoot triples. The 6-foot-8 forward had some missed shots around the rim he’d like to get back, but all in all, it was a strong offensive outing. We’ve talked plenty about the trajectory Meyer has been on over the last eight months and he seems to be continuing to rise.
J.T. Seagreaves – 2022 – F – Monroe
Seagreaves shot the ball a lot better than I remember from the travel season. The 6-foot-5 sophomore displayed a really nice face-up game from 3-point and mid-range, sizing his man up and simply shooting over the top. With their star Meyer in foul trouble in the first half, it was Seagreaves who kept things afloat, scoring 10 of the first 15 points for Monroe. However, it was then Seagreaves who found himself in foul trouble in the second half. While he only scored one point after halftime, it was a good showing on his part. He battled on the glass on both ends and had a key putback plus the foul in the second half to spark a Cheesemaker surge.
Jaxson Zibell – 2021 – SG – Waunakee
After seeing Zibell in fall league we thought he was in store for a breakout season. His junior campaign got off to a good start on Thursday as Zibell scored 18 points, including a handful of late free throws to put the game away. The lefty is a dangerous 3-point shooter that forces defenders to crowd him when he catches along the perimeter. Zibell has in-the-gym range and a beautiful high-arcing trajectory on his shot. While he’s a little undersized to play off the ball, Zibell is tough and more athletic than he looks. He was able to draw fouls in the paint on a consistent basis and cash in at the foul line.
