Takeaways
Defense, Defense, Defense
This game is all about defense. Both teams are not allowing anything easy from the floor. They are marking up and staying in front of their man. Pryor’s only problem defensively was Jorge Bautista and that is because he is a mismatch with his size. That being said though, they only allowed him 9 points in the first half. Stilwell’s problem was defending the perimeter. The majority of the TIger’s points came from beyond the arc. Both teams had quarters where they allowed fewer than 10 points.
Dominance on the Boards
Stilwell was dominant on the board throughout this game. Stilwell would fall victim to runs by Pryor and most the time the reason they stopped those runs were boards with second chance shots. Bautista and Pritchard were dominant on the boards with their size and ability to box out. Stilwell’s size also forced the Tigers to the perimeter for much of the matchup.
Player to Know
Jorge Bautista 2020 Stilwell Post
Bautista is dominant on the boards. He is helped by his size and strength but his awareness to get into his opponent is what makes it look so easy for him. He has good vision on the court finding his teammates as well. Bautista also has a good presence down low. He can bang dow low and go up for easy baskets. Baustita is 6’6 and it shows as he is often a mismatch on floor. He also showed an ability to step out to the perimeter and knock down the three. Bautista is a player that small colleges will want to take a look at. Bautista finished with 19 points on the night.
Blair Scroggins 2020 Pryor Guard
Scroggins was all over the court for the Tigers. He was their best offensive player on the day and had the production to prove it. He shot the ball well from the perimeter early in the game. He also drove the ball well as he finished at the rim through contact. Scroggins also was asked with guarding one of Stilwell’s big men for much of the game and used his speed and athleticism to make up for the size disadvantage. Scroggins finished with a game high of 23 points.
Trey Cone 2021 Stilwell Guard
Cone did not jump out to anybody in the crowd as the best player in the court but he was vital in the Indians win. He played tough, disciplined basketball and did not turn the ball over. Cone shot the ball well for Stilwell for most of the night and down the stretch of the game he was sent to the free throw line a good amount. Cone finished with a game high of 21 points.
