The Mount’s Defensive Awareness
Mount St Mary was locked in on the defensive end all game long. With John Marshall’s highest-scoring quarter only being 16, the Mount St Mary defense was playing on all cylinders. The 9-man Mount St Mary rotation didn’t let up at all throughout the game, forcing over 15 John Marshall turnovers. The defense was led by Carsten Logan with 5 steals and Guy Fidelie had 9 defensive rebounds, both getting the ball moving in transition where Mount St Mary thrives.
John Marshall 3 Point Shooting
John Marshall did not shoot too many three-pointers in this game, but when they did, they went in very efficiently and in some very big moments. John Marshall’s Xavier Cyprian hit 3 game-tying three-pointers in the second half alone. Any time it appeared as if Mount St Mary would begin to gain momentum, a John Marshall three would come and take anything that The Mount had started to build on.
Ty Lippoldt – 2022 – Mount St Mary
Lippoldt single-handedly kept Mount St Mary in the game throughout the first half. With three three-pointers made in the first half, as well as multiple layups and midrange jumpers, Lippoldt showed off his ability to score at all levels. Coach Brandon Jackson will be sure to look for a way to expand his role as the season continues to go along.
Xavier Cyprian – John Marshall
The best player on the court in this matchup, Cyprian showed off his ability to the max. He leads both teams in scoring and did it very efficiently as well. Never taking his foot off the pedal, Cyprian pushed his team on the break and maintained pressure throughout the game. Drilling a three in a clutch moment, handling the ball in stressful situations or knocking down game-sealing free throws, he showed his role as a key player on this John Marshall team. You’ll definitely hear his name more as this season goes along.
