Coaches from American, Delaware, Howard, JMU, George Mason, and William & Mary were spotted in the gym. Here we highlight 10 standouts from Friday night’s action.
MICHAEL CHEADLE | 5’8 G | DUNBAR ‘21
Cheadle is a confident ball-handler with a quick first step and good playmaking ability. He is a pesky defender who applies good pressure on the ball and reacts quickly.
ISAIAH FOLKES | 6’2 G | MIDDLEBURG ‘21
Folkes showed that he can impact the game in many ways. He’s a crafty scorer who looks to get downhill aggressively and can score from the in-between areas. Folkes was active defensively and relentless on the boards. He’s a grab and go threat who can make plays in transition.
XAVIER HARDY | 6’4 F | DUNBAR ‘20
Hardy is the vocal leader and captain of the Crimson Tide, but he also leads with his actions. He is an athletic forward who plays with a high motor and is very active on both ends of the floor. Hardy had a nice put-back dunk and was vigilant defensively.
JADEN HOUSE | 6’4 G | MIDDLEBURG ‘21
House shot the ball exceptionally well from long range, and this comes to no surprise as he has proved to be a reliable shot maker this season. He also mixed it up nicely off the bounce and had some strong finishes around the basket.
DARIUS JOHNSON | 6’1 G | EPISCOPAL ‘21
Johnson put on a memorable show by scoring 46 points in every way imaginable. He showcased unlimited range on his shot but also got to the basket at will where he finished well in traffic as a result of his strength and body control. Johnson also played tough defense and was active on the boards.
XZAVIER LONG | 6’5 F | MIDDLEBURG ‘21
This was by far the best we’ve seen Long play. He was a vocal presence throughout the game. One thing that we noticed about Long’s performance is that he is a really good passer. He sees the floor well and is unselfish with the ball. Long also made an impact on the boards and was disruptive defensively with his length.
CHRIS MATEO | 6’5 W | DUNBAR ‘21
Mateo is a long-limbed wing who plays with good effort and is a productive rebounder. He proved that he is capable of making shots from the perimeter but also has the eye for a good pass.
NATE PABIS | 6’2 G | FLINT HILL ‘22
Pabis is a knockdown shooter but also plays with a high motor. He isn’t afraid to dive on the floor for a 50/50 ball and is vigilant defensively.
CAVAN REILLY | 6’2 G | MIDDLEBURG ‘22
Reilly showed some moxie by making several clutch plays down the stretch for his team. He made shots, was alert defensively, and spaced the floor well off the ball. Reilly made an important three under with under two minutes left and knocked down some key free throws to help his team preserve a win.
SAXBY SUNDERLAND | 6’3 G | FLINT HILL ‘22
Sunderland has grown and become more athletic since the past season. He is shooting the ball confidently, handling the ball well under pressure, and proving to be a reliable playmaker with the ball in his hands.
