The Gold Division championship game was between Santa Clarita Christian and Washington Prep. Santa Clarita Christian played a solid floor game and ultimately won by double-digits.
There was plenty of talent on both teams, and here’s a look at some of the top standouts from the game.
1. Kaleb Lowery – Santa Clarita Christian 2020
Lowery is a senior and will be going to the Master’s University next season. He’s a very athletic player around the rim. He’s mobile and active and can finish strong in the paint. He can absorb contact from defenders and get himself to the free throw line. Runs the floor well in transition. A solid rebounder who brings a lot of energy and toughness on the glass.
2. D’Anthony Ward – Washington Prep 2020
Ward is one of the more underrated players in the Los Angeles area. He’s the motor that makes the Generals go. He’s a crafty point guard with solid court awareness. He’s able to find the balance between knowing when to look for his own shot and when to act as a facilitator. He has a solid off the dribble game and shoots well from the midrange.
3. Ty Harper – Santa Clarita Christian 2020
Harper is one of the fastest rising players in Southern California. He recently picked up an offer from Virginia Tech to go along with the offer he has from Detroit. He’s developed into a solid wing scorer. He can shoot from three-point range and he can makes plays off the dribble. A long and athletic player who looks to finish strong at the rim. Active around the rim fighting for rebounds.
4. Brandon Burks – Washington Prep 2021
Burks is a prototypical 3&D type player. He helps space the floor for the Generals and opens things up for Deshawn Johnson in the paint and gives D’Anthony Ward an option to pass to. He can spot up for three as well as create his own shot on the perimeter at times. Defensively, he’s versatile in that he can cover guards on the wing and sometimes matchup with bigger players in the paint.
5. Josh O’Garro – Santa Clarita Christian 2021
O’Garro is another rising prospect that should see his stock shoot up as league play is set to get underway. He’s an athletic finisher who runs the floor well in transition. He’s got a good shot from the perimeter and if he’s open, he’ll take and make the jumper. He has a pretty solid off the dribble game and nice floater when he gets in the lane. Developing playmaking game as well.
