I’ll be going through a couple of different leagues in the area that I’ll be covering at various points this season and highlighting a few key players from that league to look out for. These players aren’t necessarily stars on the team. Some of them might be, but others are key cogs that might play an important role on the team’s success this year.
Here’s a look at some of those players from the Western League.
1. Justyn Hunter – Fairfax 2020
Hunter is everything you want in a point guard. He has great court awareness and vision and is always looking to make the right play. He is constantly keeping the ball moving and keeping the offense from stagnating. Always looking to set his teammates up for easy scores. Always looks to get the best shot possible. He can score if the team needs him to.
2. David Cheatom – University 2020
Cheatom might very well be one of the most underrated players in the Los Angeles area. He is a scorer in every sense of the word. He has great offensive footwork with an arsenal of moves to create a good shot for himself and get a bucket. He’s an athletic player who gets to the rim easily. Can bait defenders into falling for shot fakes and drawing fouls. Good at using the defensive pressure he draws to find open teammates.
3. Caden Arnold – Palisades 2020
Arnold is poised to have a big senior year. He’s a great shooter from both the mid-range and from the three-point line. Knows how to get open and spots up behind the arc well. He has a quick release on his shot. He runs the floor well in transition and can finish at the rim. He’s able to do a little more too like put the ball on the floor and create his own shot or make plays for others.
4. Kymani Pollard – Westchester 2020
Pollard is a solid all-around player. He’s going to play whatever role necessary to help the team win. One area that he stands out in is his on ball defense. He’s capable of locking up on the perimeter and using his quick hands to get steals. Runs the offense well and he makes the right pass. Always looking to involve his teammates. He can shoot from mid-range and from three. Can get to the rim.
5. Orlando Greenlow – Venice 2023
Greenlow is one of the most intriguing prospects in the area. He’s an incoming freshman with a wealth of talent. He’s an athletic forward with good size. Strong rebounder who can crash the offensive glass and finish strong at the rim. He can absorb contact and finish the play. He’s a solid defensive player with the tools to be elite on the perimeter.
6. Zachary Bronson – Hamilton 2021
Bronson is a smart player and strong overall point guard. He may be a little bit small, but don’t let that fool you. He’s crafty and he can finish at the rim over bigger defenders. He runs the break well as the ball-handler and he can find his teammates on the break or in a half-court set. Pretty good shooter from the outside. Good court vision and awareness.
