It’s well-deserved for the scrappy 5-foot-9, 155-pound guard from South Salem High School as he’s going to be one of the top seniors in the entire state. Galbraith earned his spot after a great summer playing with Hoop Salem, one in which he picked up some college recruiting interest, and you could say he’s pretty amped up about competing with and against the best on Sunday.
“It’s a real honor to be invited to that camp – it’s definitely a great showcase,” Galbraith said. “I’m excited to go up there and show what I can do against other guys in the state and up in Washington. Hopefully I can get more college looks and show people what I can do as I feel like I’ve gotten a lot better over the summer.”
Galbraith went into more detail about this past off-season. “I felt like it was a great summer – I got to play in front of a lot of college coaches and the team really revolved around my game,” Galbraith said. “I got to do a lot of pick-and-roll stuff and just be a floor general and make plays for my team all game long which was fun. It was a perfect fit.”
Galbraith used the opportunity to really hone in on some areas of development. “I feel like I really improved my defense and my dribbling ability,” Galbraith continued. “I feel like I can get by a lot more defenders now and I don’t think there’s too many people that can go by me. I’m more of a pest on defense now. Those were the main things I worked on over the summer.”
College programs certainly made the effort to watch Galbraith. He earned his first scholarship offer in the summer from Multnomah and he notes that he’s also been in touch with four-year schools such as OIT, Corban, George Fox, and Pacific and also two-year schools such as Lane and Linn-Benton. Galbraith also recently took his first campus visit.
“I went down to Oregon Tech for a visit and that was good and fun,” Galbraith said. “It was nice to know their situation and what’s going on and it’s good to keep in touch with Coach (Justin) Parnell. They have a good program down there.”
Galbraith is keeping things wide open with his recruitment to see what his senior season will bring. He’ll be handed the keys at the point with Skinny (Jaden Nielsen-Skinner) now at Portland State, and he’s ready to take on the challenge of being the main man for the Saxons.
“I think it could be a really good year,” Galbraith said. “I know we have a lot of transfers and our chemistry isn’t really there yet but we have a lot of pieces to be something special and make a title run like we did last year. We’re a lot bigger and a lot stronger, maybe a little slower – it will be a different style but I’m excited about the change of pace and see how our team does this year.”
Galbraith currently ranks as the #34 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2020 rankings.
