Talents like Trey Alexander, Jaxson Robinson, Matthew Stone, Bijan Cortes, Sean Pedulla, Tobias Roland, JJ White, and many others received attention nationally. So who is next up after this great 2021 Class?
Allow us to introduce to you 2022 in the state of Oklahoma. The class is not nearly as deep as 2020 or 2021 in Oklahoma. There are still several talented players who will be good college players. Get a first look at a few players you should become acquainted with heading into the high school season. The list is not done in order.
Caden Fry 2022 Owasso Forward
Fry has so much potential with his great frame at 6’7 in the Post. He moves really well for a big man allowing him to cover more ground defensively. We have seen massive strides from Fry scoring the ball down low. The biggest thing I see from watching his game film this summer is the consistency he brought to the floor. Fry has arguably the highest potential of any 2022 Oklahoma prospect.
Jamel Graves 2022 Lawton Forward
Graves is similar to Fry in that he has some of the highest potential of any player on this list. His size sticks out immediately at 6’7 in the paint. Graves rebounds the ball and is able to use his leverage to have success scoring down low with his back to the basket. The next step will be for Graves to continue to grow and develop. As the summer continued we did see Graves start to show us a nice mid-range jumper, which would be a huge addition to his game. Level like all on this list is still to be determined for Graves collegiately.
Chase Martin 2022 Jenks Wing
Martin is a very intriguing prospect in the 2022 Class on the eastside of the state. He is a skilled Wing with tons of upside. What I enjoy about Martin is how he impacts the game at so many different levels. The separator in Martin and many other prospects is his basketball IQ. With the team returning at Jenks this season, Martin is set up nicely to be a breakout 2022 candidate.
Talyn Shettron 2022 Edmond Santa Fe Wing
Shettron is going to play D1 football. Now that the cat is out of the bag lets talk about him on the court. There is not a better athlete on this list than Shettron, which is a major reason he thrives on the hardwood. Non-stop Shettron is making plays using his length and skill. He attacks the basket on offense for his best success. What I really like about him is his willingness to be an elite defender. Shettron will run through a wall for his team if it means a positive result.
Reid Lovelace 2022 Crossings Christian Point Guard
Lovelace is an undersized Point Guard with a good handle of the basketball. He scans the floor really well getting the ball to his teammates in great spots for success. As I look at his game and how it evolved over this past summer, Lovelace has started to adjust to facing the tougher competition giving his game a boost. Shooting is an area where Lovelace thrives. It is hard to project what level Lovelace will end up at this early, but he is a college basketball player for sure.
JV Seat 2022 Edmond Memorial Forward
Seat is a bully down low in the paint. The leadership and skill set he possesses lead to winning on the court. When you watch him play, pay attention to how tuned his footwork is on the block. Due to size Seat probably has a lower ceiling college wise than some of the big guys on this list. However, if he does sprout up Seat would be the best player in the class. Production is an A+ for Seat without a doubt. I compare Seat in many ways to Jalen Redmond on the court before he decided to pursue football. Give me Seat any day on my team because he is going to help win games in a major way.
Kam Parker 2022 Booker T. Washington Guard
Parker projects to be a combo guard out of Booker T. Washington. However, expect him to take a little different role this year behind the great senior class at Booker T. Washington playing off the ball a lot. Parker will have an opportunity to step into some big three-pointers with open looks at the hoop. This will be a big season for Parker to take that next step.
Kevin Overton 2022 Midwest City Guard
Arguably, Overton might be the best player in the class currently. The skill level of Overton on the Wing or at the Point is high. The biggest question surrounding Overton is the work he will put in over the next couple of years. If Overton puts in the work there is no doubt he will be at the top or near it when the 2022 Class graduates. Overton is long, with a nice shooting stroke, and a crafty handle of the basketball. After showing flashes a year ago this would be the perfect year for Overton to breakout at Midwest City.
Adante Holiman 2022 McAlester Point Guard
Holiman is a prospect who really took the next step he needed to take this summer. When you look at his body of work the biggest thing you can point out very easily is the work he puts in. Over time Holiman has improved steadily making him a force as he enters his sophomore season. The quickness Holiman has off the bounce helps him get to the rim with ease. Holiman has a bright future and I predict will be a well-known name by the end of the year at McAlester.
Ethan Scott 2022 Mustang Guard
Scott is the best shooter in this class without a shadow of a doubt. When the ball leaves the hands of Scott you expect it to go in if you have seen him play much at all. The biggest question with Scott is size, which unfortunately for him he cannot control. If there is one thing I know shooting overcomes a lot and look for Scott to have many more college offers he already holds one from USAO as he enters his sophomore season.
