Donovan Short – Denmark – 2022
Donovan Short, the younger brother of Zane Short, will likely surpass his brother in many areas. As a sophomore, Donovan stands at 6’9”, 225 pounds. His elite size helps him govern the paint offensively and finish above the rim. He’s also surprisingly mobile, fitting more of a forward mold than big man. Not only is he a potential ranked prospect, but he’ll be sitting comfortably within the top-half of players by his senior season.
Logan Pearson – Kimberly – 2020
Logan Pearson committed to Platteville this summer and spent this fall validating his college skillset. The senior is a microwave from beyond the arc, capable of heating up quickly and staying hot for an entire game. After departures on Kimberly this offseason, the secondary scoring role is welcoming Pearson with open arms. Don’t be surprised if he moves into the rankings early in the season.
Damion Woods – Milwaukee School of Languages – 2022
Damion Woods has tremendous potential, right now it’s about harnessing it. He stood out on varsity last season, his three-point jumper and athleticism far beyond his peers. There are some rough patches fundamentally, but he’s only a sophomore. Expect Woods to elevate his skills next season while also cutting down on the underclassmen inefficiencies.
Zach Steigenberger – Appleton East – 2022
After transferring from Neenah ahead of the 2019-20 season, Steigenberger has yet to see varsity minutes. That shouldn’t be an issue, though, as the marksman offers up a skillset tailored for higher levels of play. With Wisconsin Crusaders this summer, Steigenberger showed quick maneuvers as a ball handler and off-ball movements the led to frequent open looks. A key role on East could fuel a breakout season for the sophomore guard.
Khristian Green – Wauwatosa West – 2020
At the Brookfield Central Fall League, Khristian Green scored with clear ease. Purely from a talent sentiment, he is worthy of squeezing into the latter half of our rankings, but the numbers need to catch up. He only averaged five points a game last season on a mere 47 shots.
Mason Wiesner – Manawa – 2021
Manawa peaked with their roster last season, reaching the WIAA Regional Finals on the backs of four double-digit scorers. Their number two option, Mason Wiesner, tallied 14.9 points a game, including a 20.8 points per game stretch over four games in the early half of the season. As the only player remaining from last year’s core, Wiesner looks towards various new roles and responsibilities. A major jump this season could more than easily thrust him into the 2021 class rankings.
