Marlo Fox leads all scorers with 23 points in the Sandites’ win. Below is a list of the most productive players and intriguing recruits from the match.
Marlo Fox | 2021 SG | Sand Springs
Marlo Fox→ Scoring guard
→ Lock-down defender
Marlo Fox notched his career-high in scoring Tuesday night when he dropped 23 points on 3-3 shooting from beyond the arc, no small task. More impressive was the length at which Fox pulled each of his three 3-pointers, each coming well beyond the line and boosting Sand Springs’ confidence. Additionally, he was great on the defensive end, locking down opposing ball-handlers and ultimately turning defense into offense for the Sandites.
Anthony Gazaway | 2021 PG | Ponca City
→ Shooter
→ Floor general
Anthony Gazaway was Ponca City’s most productive scorer by a wide margin, finishing with 20 points. The product wasn’t always so apparent, but he used his sneaky athleticism to score the ball from start-to-finish, gradually notching his 20-ball on great, all-around offensive play. Gazaway finished well at the rack thanks to his control and shot the ball consistently, finishing the contest 6-of-7 from the free-throw line and a trio of 3-pointers to boast.
Davon Richardson | 2020 P-F | Sand Springs
Davon Richardson→ Competitive rebounder
→ Three-level scorer
→ Energy Generator
Davon Richardson was phenomenal Tuesday night in three areas, primarily; his energy, his scoring and his rebounding. Richardson was, first and foremost, the glue on both ends of the floor with his high-energy, confident and fast-paced play. He notched 16 points on the offensive end, mostly coming from his stellar play in transition, which — you guessed it — stemmed from his competitive play in the rebounding game.
Luke Seals | 2020 C | Ponca City
Luke Seals→ All-around defender
→ High-iQ post
Though Luke Seals didn’t have a fantastic game scoring the basketball, he was certainly impressive in his all-around game. The 6-foot-8 Chad Kroeger look-alike played point-forward for much of the night, bringing the ball up the floor and displaying his ball-handling skills. He rotated about every position in the offense and displayed some of his scoring talents. Seals even knocked down a late corner-3-pointer in hopes of lifting the Wildcats to a comeback victory.
Jaeden Hurd | 2021 F | Sand Springs
Jaeden Hurd→ Passing post
→ Competitive rebounder
Though he didn’t necessarily stack the state sheet, Jaeden Hurd was quietly one of the most important players on the floor. Defensively, he did an incredible job with Richardson of limiting Seals’s production. Hurd’s size advantage allowed him to score a few points in the post, and his competitive play pushed Sand Springs past the Wildcats in the rebounding game. Hurd is an exceptionally intelligent post-passer, as well, and he often rotated to the wing to dish a dime to one of his teammates.
Steven Faulkner | 2021 SG | Ponca City
Steven Faulkner→ Spot-up shooter
→ Lanky guard
Steven Faulkner is a very intriguing prospect who could be a player to watch over the next two seasons. His game requires some tweaks and, perhaps, a dash of confidence, but he showed flashes of impressive play Tuesday night. Faulkner stands about 6-foot-4-inches, but with exceptional athleticism and control with the ball in his hands, unlike many players of his stature. He shot the ball well when he took opportunities, hitting a couple 3s in the loss.
