Earlier, we took a look at some predictions for the MSL Cardinal conference. Harvest Prep is the top team, but the others have some standouts without a doubt.

Let’s take a look at the first team, as well as second team names!

First Team:

CJ Anthony (6’0” / PG 2020 / Harvest Prep): CJ is a hard nosed point guard and has been since arriving to the high school seen. Maybe the best guard in Central Ohio, Anthony is set for a huge senior season. Fresh off a state championship, Harvest Prep lost a ton of production that will need replaced. Hovering in the mid 20’s a game last year, don’t be surprised to see the senior be around that 30 point a game mark. No one in the conference can really check him, so he’s a highlight night in and night out. Player of the year, obviously.

Mason Purvis (G 2021 / Millersport): Purvis figures to be one of the top scorers in the MSL-Cardinal this year, no matter the amount of wins his team puts up. The junior was their best player as a sophomore and will once again be this season. Can score at the rim or in the mid range off the dribble. I predict that the 2021 guard will be one of the more complete scorers in the conference again this season, giving him a boost up to first team.

Brayden Holbrook (6’3” / W 2020 / Grove City Christian): Brayden is the go-to guy for the Grove City Christian Hoops team. Averaging 13 points a game as a junior, a team high, Holbrook is a known scorer in this league. Doesn’t have the athleticism to beat you, but he can shoot the ball with a left handed release from the mid-range or deep. Holbrook works with a good motor around the rim where he finishes and gathers extra possessions. Expect to see the senior improve on an solid junior year for himself.

Brock Unger (6’5” / WF 2021 / Berne Union): Unger will be one of the top scorers in the league once again this season. Unger could see a boost in his scoring that has him top two in the league. The 6-5 wing forward will still gather rebounds, as he has always done. Unger is still a pinpoint shooter that can knock it down and he will. Unger can work on the defensive end too, simply bigger than much of his opposition. Able to block shots inside is a skill he possesses. A special player in a small conference.

Bryson Vogel (6’4” / W 2020 / Fisher Catholic): Vogel has shown he can shoot it from deep in his high school career, and that will continue. Versatile player who can guard a couple different positions. Expect his numbers to go up this year as he should be “that guy” for the Irish. Vogel can handle the ball a bit but really has a knack for scoring. Expecting a big season in the Cardinal.

Second Team:

Kaden Starcher - Fisher Catholic

Chase McCartney - Berne Union

Brian Beavers - Harvest Prep

Garrett Baker - Grove City Christian

Cameron Donahoe - Grove City Christian
