The one day event featured 18 games inside the Colony high school gymnasium with highly recruited and under-the-radar players showing out in their respective games. Below you will find evaluations and analysis of the top performances by forwards and centers on the day.
DeAndre Henry, PHHoenix Prep Red
Henry brought his no-nonsense approach in both of PHHoenix Prep’s games, crashing the offensive and defensive glass and powering through any and all defenders in the paint. Henry is a tough cover because of his size and strength at 6-feet-7 and 225 pounds. The Nevada-commit is a capable low-post scorer as he has both a back to the basket skill set and can use brut force to power through contact.
Kaleb Lowery, Santa Clarita Christian
Lowery has continued to progress in just about every aspect of the game, but what stood out most was his shot blocking and rim protecting abilities. The 6-foot-8 forward has impeccable defensive timing on shot contests and knows how to stay vertical to avoid fouling. Lowery, a senior, takes his shot blocking one step further has he often keeps the ball in play, giving his team an extra offensive possession.
Rancho Christian’s Evan Mobley is widely considered the No. 1 prospect in the country and he showed why at the Hoops By Ugland Fall HS Showcase.Evan Mobley, Rancho Christian
No “best big man” list would be complete without Evan Mobley, who was in the gym with his Rancho Christian team. The 7-footer is widely considered the No. 1 prospect in the class of 2020 and he showed why on more than one occasion. Mobley is one of the best shot blockers in the country. He swats jumpers, floaters, and most all opposing attempts in the paint. The senior can rebound and push the break like a guard due to his vision and basketball IQ and he can score in a variety of ways with his inside-out skill set.
Dok Murodar, Anaheim Canyon
Murodar is a new face to the SoCal hoops scene and he brings something to Anaheim Canyon which it hasn’t had in recent memory: An athletic, high motor 7-footer. The sophomore is a fluid athlete who gets up and down the floor well and has good lateral speed on the defensive end. Murodar has soft hands and touch around the basket and can stretch the floor to the 3-point line.
Kaleb Smith, Damien
Smith is a skilled young forward who makes his impact on the offensive end. The 6-foot-6 sophomore can spread the floor to the 3-point line on a pick-and-pop or when trailing the play in transition. He has smooth shooting mechanics, good perimeter footwork and some ball skills which allow him to smoothly complete dribble hand-offs.
