The steady 6-foot-3, 180-pound wing made an impression as much as anyone on the AAU circuit with Jordan Team Fly as he worked hard to show that he’s diversified his game from just being a shooter. Fraser got a chance to show off his expanded skills this past Sunday at the PrepHoops Top 250 Expo and he certainly impressed those in attendance.
For Fraser, the opportunity to play at the showcase was one he wasn’t going to pass up. “It’s good to have everyone here in one gym and to be able to play against them,” Fraser said. “It’s some of the best competition in the state and it’s good to go against that.”
At the Expo, Fraser shot the ball well as always but also did some good things with the basketball. He let the game come to him and taking what the defense offered, whether it was the open shot, a clear lane to the basket, or an opening where he could find a teammate for an easy score. He credits a lot of his improvement to his spring/summer ball.
“I think we had a great team and we got some good exposure and went up against some good competition,” Fraser said. “Just being a leader, I really improved with that going into this next season with Grant and my slashing ability, attacking – that improved also.”
College programs have noticed Fraser and the additions to his game. Over the summer, OIT gave him his first scholarship offer and two other schools have been in serious contact. Fraser has been busy working on his college recruitment and has already made some official visit plans.
“I’m going to Colorado (School of Mines) next weekend for a visit and I haven’t discussed anything with Western Oregon, but they mentioned that (a visit) would be something that they would be interested in and I would be interested in that also,” Fraser said. “I’ve got a trip in October to go down to OIT, so that should be fun to check that out and meet with the guys and the coaches.”
Colorado School of Mines has not yet offered a scholarship but there’s a possibility they could on the visit – something that would be music to Fraser’s ears. “I want to be an engineer and that’s one of the best engineering schools in the country, so that would be a perfect place,” Fraser said. “They have a good coach – I’ve talked to him on the phone and he seems like a great guy and I can’t wait to meet him.”
Fraser is keeping an open mind with the recruiting process but admits that things could change. “Right now I’m looking at signing after basketball season,” Fraser said. “But if I just love it and know I want to go there, then for sure I would be open to signing early.”
Whatever the case, Fraser is definitely looking forward to this upcoming season at Grant. The Generals graduated long-time backcourt Aaron Deloney and Ty Rankin, and now much of the offensive load will fall on the senior wing. “For sure it’s going to be different as we’re going to have to get our points from somewhere else since AD and Ty contributed a lot to that,” Fraser said. “But I think it will be a new experience and a new challenge and I’m ready for it.”
