Gerald averaged 18.5 points and 7.4 assists a game last winter and followed that up with a Prep Hoops Circuit championship in the summer highlighted by his 30 point game on the final day. It was an outstanding experience that has helped put Gittens on the radar of several college programs.
“In the spring I felt those games were our warm-up games and development games, bonding and playing together but when the summer came around it brought out a desire to win and do whatever it takes to win,” Gerald said. “The 17U year prepared me a lot for the upcoming season showing what type of skill set player it’s going to take to get to the next level and potentially pro.
“The top moment was when we won our Prep Hoops tournaments and how we came together as a team and enjoyed our time with one another.”
College programs picked up their interest with Gittens and now a healthy group is in contact.
“IUPUI, Buffalo and NDCSC has been in contact more than others,” Gerald said. “I’m hearing from IUPUI, Milwaukee, Buffalo, Lipscomb, UC Santa Barbara, North Dakota State, Abilene Christian, Nebraska-Omaha, and Monmouth.”
Gittens doesn’t have any visits planned yet but he is looking for a school that will fit his ability and his personality the best.
“I’m looking for a college that I will be able to make a big impact on, a college that will accept my game and trust me to make the team better. And take them to the next level.”
Gittens earned a lot of respect for what he did at the Prep Hoops Circuit, Hard Work Region championships. He scored 30 points on 10 of 15 shooting, 10 of 12 from the foul line. It’s one of the ways he will be remembered. One of the ways he will want to be remembered.
“I want people to think I am a top athlete and I am a good player that will succeed in college and the basketball world,” Gerald said.
