Truth be told we had seen Noah Ogoli a little this summer but on Sunday he really got our attention. The 5-foot-11, 155-pound point guard impressed us with his poise as the Tualatin sophomore rose to the challenge against the top-notch opposition.
“I think it was a really good experience for me,” Ogoli said. “There was a lot of good copmetition here and it made me play my best because I played against players better than me.”
As noted we had seen Ogoli play before, a little with both his Jordan Team Fly squad and with Tualatin in summer league. The AAU season was good for the young point guard as he really got a chance to work on developing his game.
“I got a lot of playing time because I worked hard and played defense and that’s how you win games,” Ogoli said. “If you play defense then you’re going to play. I worked on my ball-handling against pressure and I saw the floor really well and got my teammates buckets.”
Ogoli was able to show off these improved skills at the Expo. In one game, he showed a great feel for the game, took great care of the basketball and looked to set up teammates. In another game, he found himself getting left open so he took the open threes and knocked them down. And throughout, he did a great job with staying with his man on defense.
While it’s still early, Ogoli has a goal when it comes to playing at the next level. “I just want to pick up an offer,” Ogoli said. “Anyone that looks at me really, I want to make it.”
There will be plenty of time for Ogoli – both in the sense of getting recruiting attention but also this upcoming season with the Timberwolves. “We’re rebuilding I guess because we’re young,” Ogoli said. “It’ll be fun – we’ll get a lot of playing time and experience.”
