Van Kalsbeek had one of the most productive summers of anyone in the state, playing really with with his South Dakota Attack team. He has signed to play NAIA ball at Northwestern College, and the 6-8 big man should have a huge senior year for the Dutchmen.
First Team
2020 Alex Van Kalsbeek, MOC-Floyd Valley (17.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 2.5 blocks, 71.4 FG%)
The 6-8 big man leads league returnees in scoring and blocks, and is second in rebounding. A highly efficient forward who runs the floor and finishes at the rim, he should have a monster senior year for MOC-FV on both ends of the floor.
2020 Jamison Helmers, Okoboji (16.9 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 58 3PM)
The Pioneers struggled early last year, but closed the season strong, including a win over Boyden-Hull. Helmers’ 58 made 3s rank second among returnees, as do is 16.9 points a game. Look for Okoboji to be much improved, and Helmers is a big reason why.
2020 Keyton Moser, Boyden-Hull (12.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.1 steals, 51.3 FG%)
Moser was a key piece for a Comets team that finished runner-up in 2A last year, and should be among the top contenders again this season. He finished second on the team in scoring, assists and steals, while leading the team in rebounding and blocks. A do-everything forward capable of scoring inside and out, his numbers won’t blow anyone away because of how balanced Boyden-Hull is, but he’s one of the league’s best players.
2022 Lucas Lorenzen, Okoboji (15.4 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.0 steals, 53.6 FG%)
The other key reason Okoboji should be much improved is Lorenzen, who was one of the most productive freshmen in the state last year, leading the team in rebounding and finishing second in scoring. He had 23 points and 11 rebounds in that upset win over Boyden-Hull late last season.
2020 Payton Mauldin, George-Little Rock (13.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.6 steals, 51.9 FG%)
The 6-4 wing is a playmaker who led the Mustangs in scoring last season, dished out 64 assists and combined for 58 steals and blocks, showing he can make a big impact on both ends of the floor.
