The inside dominance of 6-foot-9 Kijani Wright and the perimeter skill of his 6-3, fellow Windward High sophomore, Dylan Andrews, on Saturday night – and thru Sunday’s Top 30 All-Star game – showcased two of the Magic program’s top prospects.
Wright (PICTURED) shared the camp’s Most Outstanding Player designation (with Aidan Shaw of Blue Valley in Overland Park in Kansas) and, like Andrews, rates among the five or so best prospects in the Class of 2022 in the west.
Three other Compton Magic players were also selected to the top all-star game roster Sunday:
*Mikey Williams (San Ysidro High in San Diego) goes into his first high school as – with Bronny James of Sierra Canyon – one of the two most heavily publicized members of the Class of 2023.
The 6-2 Williams showed why he is one of the elite-level scorers in all of Southern California – regardless of class.
*Six-one Benny Gealer (Rolling Hills Prep) is as good as jump shooter as there is anywhere in Southern California. You’re stunned when the sophomore misses an open jumper, regardless of distance.
*And one of the Southland’s most under-appreciated (aka, under-publicized) sophomores is 6-5 Quinton Webb (Loma Linda Academy), an all-Southern Section selection last season and one of the more forceful rebounds and finishers at the camp.
Compton Magic members selected to the first two all-star games (of 20 players each) were freshmen Jared McCain and Jeremiah Whitmore (each of Corona Centennial) and Xavier Edmonds (Bishop Montgomery), as well as sophomores Kalib LaCount (King-Drew) and Amir Gipson (Taft).
