Matt Bengel | 6-3 G | Mercyhurst Prep (PA)
Bengel regularly slipped past defenders for smooth finishes, which speaks to his handle and ability to change speeds. Showed touch on finger-rolls in traffic. Good positional size. Shoots it well. Active cutter away from the ball. All in all, Bengel is an offensive weapon.
Chris Herbort | 6-2 G | Beavecreek
Herbort has terrific elevation and hangtime on his pull-up jumper, which often comes after one dribble. He can hit that shot slashing either direction and catches the defender off-guard when he rises up for it. Strong body that makes his spin move inside very effective. High motor and a very engaged defender.
Tre Beard | 5-11 PG | Chillicothe
Playing with the most talented roster in the event, Beard took a role player approach and thrived in doing so. Unselfishly advanced the ball in transition and found shooters. Beard also expended a ton of energy on defense by picking up full-court and/or pressuring the opposing point guard. He is quick enough to get into someone’s dribble and make the opponent work hard just to initiate offense. While unselfish, Beard doesn’t hesitate to take (and make) open shots or attack when the spacing is right.
Jaidon Lipscomb | 6-3 SG | Dohn Prep
A 2019 Pickerington Central grad, Lipscomb continued his reputation as a knockdown outside shooting threat. Appeared more comfortable banging 3-pointers off the dribble. Also flashed clever passing ability when working in the pick-and-roll.
Adam Chaney | 6-4 SG | Carrollton
Chaney’s combination of size and shooting on the wing is intriguing. On occasion he sneaks into the lane for finesse finishes in traffic. The size comes into play when he defends on the wing and uses his length to contest shots. Skilled player.
Connor Fisher | 6-3 SG | Mount Vernon
Fisher shot the ball off the catch with remarkable confidence. Didn’t need much space at all to connect on a set-shot from distance. Strong body. Unafraid to crash the glass, too.
Simon Blair | 5-9 PG | South Central
Blair is a dynamic distributor. Makes clever play after clever play, all of which lead to high percentage looks. We’ve remarked on his ability to drive-and-kick or probe-and-kick to open shooters in the past. Saturday, though, he mostly dished late to cutters and forwards. The late passes open up chances for finishes, which he does off either foot and with either hand. Strong, compact frame.
Chris Ringfield | 6-7 C | St. Edward
Ringfield is both taller and more skilled than expected. The open floor setting allowed him to display ball-handling ability, which could translate to a face-up game in a more structured setting. He’s also fluid and bouncy. Very intrigued by both his upside and ability to effect winning for St. Edward this season, a defending regional champion with high expectations going into 2020.
