Continue ReadingBrookfield Central 2021 guard Ben Nau remains in no rush to make a decision. While he’s listing no favorites among his five scholarship offers, one program is beginning to impress the junior guard with their prioritization of him at this stage in the recruiting process.
Led by head coach Pat Baldwin and assistant coach Terrance McGee, UW-Milwaukee is making a big push to keep Nau close to home.
“I like coach McGee and coach Baldwin,” Nau told Prep Hoops Wisconsin. “I truly enjoy both of those two. I like the coaching staff a lot there.”
Nau holds other offers from Miami (OH), UW-Green Bay, Indiana State, and DePaul. The 6-foot-1 guard is coming off an unofficial visit to Wisconsin, who has started to get in the mix.
“It was probably the best atmosphere possible,” Nau said. “I thought it was amazing. I’ve been to a lot of football games. Either that or the Ohio State game two years ago was the best atmosphere by far.
“It was a great environment. Sports are a huge thing there, academics are a huge thing there. It’s a great campus too.”
Nau also mentioned interest from Drake, Wright State, Southern Illinois, and Butler this fall. The Salukis, who signed former Waupun star and reigning Mr. Basketball in the state of Wisconsin Marcus Domask in 2019, could be the next to offer when Nau visits on Nov. 1.
“They’ve been in a couple of times,” said Nau. “Hopefully I’ll be able to pull in an offer when I go on my visit. They told me they like my game, how I play. They wanted to get me down as soon as possible.”
Nau, the state’s seventh-ranked player in the class of 2021, helped Brookfield Central claim the Division 1 state championship last season, averaging 9.3 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.
Planning to play out July before narrowing down his list of schools and making a decision, Nau is wide open with his recruitment.
“I honestly have not thought about it,” he said. “I’m just working and seeing where things take me.”
“I’m looking at the culture of the school and the program,” he continued. “I’m high on academics, so I’m looking at that as well. Then the people there. Gotta be people I love being around and have a connection with.”
