As a basketball based site, we cover basketball, and always will. But, that also gives us a chance to mention hoopers that are currently excelling at both sports.
Many traits can work between the two. Some to mention are speed, vision, footwork, strength and even IQ. Here I take a look at some of the areas basketball prospects who have gotten it done in the fall, too!
Here We Go…
Jack Sawyer (2021 / Pickerington North): Jack Sawyer may be the best all around athlete Central Ohio has seen in a long time. Sawyer is committed to play football for Ohio State, and he’s listed as a top three prospect in the 2021 recruiting class. Sawyer is a standout from the defensive end position, and even played some quarterback this past week. On the basketball court, everyone knows how good the junior is. A matchup problem inside, that can burry the turnaround at a high rate. Sawyer will lead a very talented Pickerington North team this season, that will be due for a postseason run. But, in the meantime. You can catch him on Friday nights, racking up sacks and running defenders over.
Chris Scott (2020 / Pickerington North): Pick North has another standout athlete on the hardwood, as well as the turf. Scott is a nationally recognized wide receiver prospect that holds offers from the likes of Kentucky, Michigan, Boston College and more. Scott is a basketball prospect in his own way as well. The do-it-all guard for the Panthers, Scott does a little bit of everything. Willing defender who gets after a loose ball, can score it off the dribble and creates for teammates. Scott could be an X-factor for Pickerington North this year. In the mean time, he’s busy catching touchdown passes and routing up defenses.
DJ Moore (2022 / Worthington Christian): Not many know that Moore is also a star on the football field, well I don’t think anyone knew till this year. Moore is a talented receiver that can take it the distance off any catch, which is why he is near the top of the list in yards for the entire state. Moore is a standout guard for the Warriors with the ability to take control of the game, and good decision making. The Worthington Christian athlete is one of the top sophomores in Central Ohio, and one that excels at multiple sports. Worthington Christian is going to build off a solid year last year, and Moore will be the key factor.
Can’t Forget About…
Qian Magwood (2020 / Walnut Ridge): Magwood is possibly the top unsigned football player in the area, a mid major prospect that continues to get high major looks. Magwood has been able to bring that same toughness to the hardwood, where he is the point guard for the Scots. The senior brings the gridiron speed, that allows him to finish tough at the cup, or stay with ball handlers. Walnut Ridge has big plans this year as they have a talented senior class. Qian will be a huge part of that as the team’s primary ball handler. However, Magwood is a prospect that you will see play on Saturdays very soon.
Isaiah Alsip (2020 / Galion): Galion hasn’t had their way in hoops lately, but they have a quality player in Isaiah Alsip. Alsip can score it with the best of them, and changes speeds well, which makes him hard to guard. The senior is an all-state caliber receiver in the fall. Alsip has good hands and can absolutely move after the catch. Off to a 3-0 start, Isaiah is a huge reason of that. Alsip will have a new coach this fall on the hardwood. Also, some new faces around him after graduating a few players. Expect Isaiah be among the top scorers in the MOAC once again.
Otto Kuhns (2020 / Bloom-Carroll): Thursday night Otto Kuhns went 17-for-22 passing for 229 yards and two touchdowns, that just real part of the player Kuhns is on the football field. Kuhns will likely play division-one football, but he’s a quality hooper as well. But, the senior could very well play D2 basketball, but football is his calling card. On the court Kuhns can score it from all over the half-court. Also, Otto is a team player in both sports, and once coaches have to love teaching. The senior Bulldog will put up big numbers once again this winter. But, for now he’s busy doing that on the field.
