The talented 6-foot-4, 175-pound guard seemingly played non-stop hoops since the buzzer sounded at the state tournament, running on the AAU circuit with ML20 and in-between May and July suiting back up with Central Catholic. He’s definitely due for some time off, but at the same time he’s got a college recruitment that he knows he needs to sort out as well.
“I’m just trying to figure out where I’m going to take my visits and stuff,” Amato said. “There are still some schools coming in late, so I’m not rushing anything.”
Amato noted that Montana State and San Jose State State are two schools that have been in recent contact. Eastern Washington and Pacific, his two current scholarship offers, are still in play and he notes that he hopes to make an official visit to both this fall. As one of the few prospects in the state with multiple scholarship offers, will he sign early?
“I haven’t really thought about it, but as of right now I’m going to take some time off from basketball since I’ve been playing so long,” Amato said. “But hopefully I can commit by Chiles Center (the state tournament). I’m not sure yet. I’ve just got to talk to my mom and figure it out.”
Amato. who is vacationing in Mexico the first half of August, reflected back on the experience with ML20, especially closing things out. “I feel that July was the best that I played all season,” Amato said. “And I feel like we ended with a strong showing.”
Amato currently ranks as the #7 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2020 rankings.
