The smooth 6-foot-3, 180-pound wing was as smooth a shooter as there was in the Hustle Region and colleges paid close attention to his exploits all AAU season long.
“My summer went great,” Woods said. “We won a lot and me and my guys have picked up a lot of stock and a lot of interest. I couldn’t have asked for a better summer.”
Woods calling card is his perimeter shooting for sure. But this summer he worked on expanding his game not only offensively but on the other side of the ball as well. “I think I’m improving more off the dribble and that’s what colleges wanted to see,” Woods said. “I’ve also improved a lot on defense. I’m really playing defense now.”
As a result, college coaches have observed his development and he currently lists Fresno State, Sacramento State, and Seattle as some of the schools that he’s heard from the most. This summer Woods also picked up his first scholarship offer from Western Oregon, and the Wolves have made an early impression on him.
“It’s a really good school with really good coaches and they’ve made me feel like a family already and I’m not even there yet,” Woods said. “That’s really awesome. But I just want to go play basketball for free anywhere. Wherever it takes me, that’s where I’m going.”
Woods is keeping things open for now but admits there is one school that could make a difference if they were to offer a scholarship. “I think I’ll probably wait it out until spring unless my dream school offers and then I’ll commit,” Woods said. “I really want to go to Fresno State as my family is from there so that would be a cool place to play.”
With no decisions imminent and AAU games all done with, Wodos now turns his attention to getting ready for his senior season at Junipero Serra. “I just want to get in the best shape of my life,” Woods said. “Then in high school, hopefully we can make a far run in the playoffs.”
