For this set of articles, I’ll break down the prospects from the Baltimore area that landed in the rankings.
Khyrie Staten | 6’2 | St. Frances/Crusader Nation
Ranking: No. 58
To start last season, Staton had a very limited role on St. Frances, but he continued to work his way into the rotation with tremendous effort on the defensive side of the ball. As the season progressed, he became a more confident shooter from outside playing alongside the playmakers that demand the defense’s attention. This spring, Staten is coming into his own and asserting himself often, but is still smart about his decision-making as a scorer.
Clarence Obijulu | 6’7 | City/Team Thrill
Ranking: No. 59
Obijulu has solid size and great athleticism that he can bring to the front court. He’s a good competitor that plays with a high motor especially when it comes to rebounding. Obijulu runs the floor well, blocks shots and finishes consistently around the rim.
Trae English | 5’10 | Poly/Team Melo
Ranking: No. 61
English is a part of a loaded back court lineup for Poly. Last season, English came off the bench and played respectable minutes. He’s known for his ability to score in bunches, sort of like a Lou Williams style of play, but last season he was asked to come in and be more of a floor general. While he showed glimpses of his scoring ability, he looked to gradually become more comfortable getting the team into sets. English is a tenacious on-ball defender who is always looking to poke at the ball and earn his team a transition opportunity.
Denari Boykin | 6’4 | Curley
Ranking: No. 72
Boykin has solid size and strength at 6-foot-4. He’s featured on his high school team as more of a power forward, but has shown capability to play on the perimeter effectively. Boykin is a good shooter off the catch and is a capable one from 3, but is at his best in transition where he can showcase his athleticism and ability to finish around the rim.
