But in order to impress college coaches, the shifty 6-foot, 170-pound knew he needed to showcase more of his game and prove that he could really play the point guard position. Playing with Jordan Team Fly he got that chance, helping the team win plenty of games and garnering plenty of college recruiting interest – including his first scholarship offer.
“It was a really good experience coming from playing on the EYBL circuit,” White said. “I thought I really did a good job facilitating for others. It was a lot of fun.”
Jordan Team Fly finshed up the AAU season this past weekend in Salem at The Hoop Summer Championships where White helped lead the team to the final game. Not long after, White got the call he’d been waiting for – his first scholarship offer from Western Oregon.
“It was really exciting to get that but also a relief,” White said. “I know now that if nothing else happens I have somewhere I can go on a full ride. But I really like Coach Wes (Pifer) and Coach Jordan (Jamestown) and they have some good freshman coming in like Collin (Warmouth) and Antonio (Salinas).”
While White definitely likes the Wolves and hopes to visit the campus in the next month or so, he’s keeping his options open. White continues to hear from programs at all levels of college basketball, including D-I (Portland State, Toledo, UC San Diego, Eastern Washington, Seattle, Washington State), D-II (Colorado Christian, Hawaii Pacific), D-III (Aurora and Whitman), and NAIA (Corban and Montana Western).
White is planning on attending elite camps at Washington State, Portland State, and Western Oregon and if some other schools offer some official visits, he’ll take those too. At this point, is he considering making an early commitment? “That’s something that I have to figure out,” White said. “But I don’t think I’ll sign until spring.”
White currently ranks as the #2 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2020 rankings.
