The 2020 team has basically ran through the Ohio tournaments I have witnessed. But, things haven’t been the easiest for them on the EYBL. The talent is definitely there however, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them shock a team or two.
Now, a bit of a roster breakdown starting with the guards who will lead the way for All-Ohio Red.
Guards:
Dom Penn – Dom Penn is one of the top guards in Central Ohio in his class. A mid-major level player, that is quick and has good athleticism. Penn can light it up from anywhere on the court, including a mid range dagger. All-Ohio will definitely need Penn’s best minutes.
CJ Anthony – Another top guard from Central Ohio, Anthony can flat out play. You get a dog mentality feeling when you watch the lead guard. Can handle the rock, quickness and a knack for getting to the hoop stick out when watching CJ. A three-level scorer in his own right, that also plays pressuring defense on-ball.
Javohn Garcia – A scoring minded guard, that often leads this team. You never know when Garcia is going to explode for a 30 point game. The Pick Central product is strong and he uses that to get to the hoop, and often it’s above the rim. Garcia plays tough all the time and is a pure competitor. I fully expect Garcia to put up some solid numbers this week.
With a few guards being pointed out, it’s on to the wing position. These players are versatile and can play a number of roles.
Wings:
Donovan Johnson – Easily the best prospect on All-Ohio, Johnson is a high major player that can play. The brother of recently drafted Tarheel Cam Johnson, basketball is in the blood for this one. A knockdown left-handed shooter that can score it from all over. Gets to the hoop with finesse and has a smooth floater to his game. The 6-foot-7 Johnson is in store for a huge week, where he’ll be leading All-Ohio Red.
Marcus Johnson – The most athletic player in the gym that has improved a lot over time. The Columbus South product is a slashing wing-guard that finishes tough at the rim, often above. A bouncy player that works on defense where he picks up quite a few blocks as well as a good rebounding skill. Johnson has improved his shot and is capable. At 6-foot-4 with a long wing-span, Johnson guards multiple positions.
All-Ohio Red will have other big time contributors such as Mo Njie, a dominant inside force. Also, Garvin Clarke, Ben Fort and Devontae Blanton.
A tough start to the week as All-Ohio will take on a super talented Team WhyNot squad. Nimari Burnett, Jalen Green and Addison Patterson. Wednesday at 5 PM this one will tip off.
The Donavan Johnson and Jalen Green matchup has the capability to be a great one. It’ll be a great test for the Pennsylvania product in Johnson. Going up against a top five player in Jalen Green.
