To say that The Truth EYBL 15U squad has had successs on the PrepHoops Circuit Hustle Region would be a major understatement. Head coach Jason Crowe’s squad was ranked the #1 seed for a reason, as they came into the Hustle Region Finals sporting an undefeated record and having already won two previous Circuit events. They looked the part in the 15U title game, pulling away in the end for a 81-70 victory over California Select Red and another ‘ship to close out the AAU season.
Here’s a look at how the top performers did in the championship game:
Ramel Lloyd Jr (2022 Taft HS/The Truth EYBL) – Lloyd joined The Truth only recently but it looked like he fit right in. Offensively, the 6-foot-6 guard knocked down threes but also took it strong to the hole, using his length and athleticism to finish while absorbing contact. Lloyd showed good court vision and dished out a few nice looking assists as well. He already holds some scholarship offers and we’ll have an update posted on him soon.
Ben Shtolzberg (2022 Sherman Oaks Notre Dame HS/The Truth EYBL) – In some ways Shtolzberg is the pulse of The Truth and his teammates feed off his energy on the floor. The 6-foot-2 combo guard was in constant attack mode on the offensive end, really taking it strong to the hole on defenders instead of settling for jump shots. He distributed the ball but really made a mark with his rebounding, grabbing at least six boards.
Davion Wright (2022 Elk Grove Franklin HS/The Truth EYBL) – Wright is a bouncy 6-foot-1 combo guard and he showed good poise both handling and shooting the ball. His stroke from deep was effortless and fruitful, and he successfully balanced his own scoring with that of facilitating for his teammates. Wright ended up with 13 points and four assists that we recorded.
Trey Wilborn (2022 Mater Dei HS/The Truth EYBL) – Just like we saw in May, Wilborn loves shooting the three ball but he did it extremely well in the finals. The 6-foot-5 lefty ended up hitting seven triples, including a couple way beyond the three-point line. There were shots he could have passed up or done a little more using his size around the basket, but it’s clear he has the freedom to pull whenever and hard to argue with the results – 22 points.
Martin Rudolph (2022 Cathedral Catholic HS/California Select Red) – Rudolph was the high scorer on the day with 29 points, with practically all of them on layups. The 6-foot guard was Johnny on the Spot as he simply knew how to get to the right position at the right time under the basket, whether it was in the half court or in transition.
Camden McCormick (2022 Francis Parker HS/California Select Red) – McCormick exhibited some toughness at the point, using his strong 6-foot-1 build to create off the dribble and knock down shots. He found teammates open in transition and ended up finishing with 14 points of his own.
Cam Marshall (2022 Mater Dei HS/California Select Red) – Marshall made a number of mid-range shots, many of which coming off the catch-and-shoot or creating using one or two dribbles. The 6-foot-2 wing had a nice looking release and as one of the taller guys on the team, was able to help out on the boards. Marshall finished with 12 points.
