Continue ReadingIt was a great first night at the Finale in OKC. There was a lot of talent showcased with multiple college coaches in attendance. Tonight I focused on a talent that goes unnoticed to the naked eye. Rebounding is an art that most coaches, including myself love to see. It doesn’t take a lot of talent to be a good rebounder. Although if you want to be a great rebounder effort, fearless, attitude and heart are the key factors that go into being a great rebounder. The biggest factor in rebounding and kids if your reading this, screen shot and live by it, go rebound with TWO HANDS! Here are a some players who did just that.
Jalyn Todd- 6’5 Deer Creek HS- OK Eagles.
Jalyn had a great first night leading his team in rebounds. A very tough PF, he uses his athleticism to his advantage. He creates space and goes after every rebound in his area. Offensive rebounding is what makes him such a great player. Jalyn has been performing at a high level on the glass all summer, he’s definitely made his way into some college coaches booklets.
Mason Drake- 6’4 Perry HS- OK Eagles.
Another Oklahoma Eagles PF that was a rebounding machine tonight. Very strong, does the little mechanical moves to go after rebounds. Boxes out, swim moves, goes after the ball with two hands. A kid that coaches love to have on their team. His effort is full speed the whole game, he gets about 6 more points off of offensive rebounds and put backs. Look for him to have a big weekend.
Desmond Slaughter- 6’4 Life Waxahachie TX- Texas Elite.
A great athlete in Slaughter and he did just that on the glass. Very long and mobile, plays above the rim. Fun to watch Desmond play, he’s a very heady player that rebounds everything. He’s hard to stop from attacking the glass and also knows how to get around defenders to rebound. When you look at a stat sheet, don’t be surprise if the young man has a double double.
Jake Gendron- 6’2 Bishop Kelly HS- Tulsa Hawks Elite.
Jake is a fierce competitor that makes up for some height disadvantages in the post. He’s not afraid to mix it up with the 6’6-6’8 post players when fighting for a rebound. His play on Friday night showcased an array of talents and what stood out was his ability to rebound over bigger players. A guard that mixes it up and rebounds as well as Jake does will be a coaches player at the next level.
Jayden Dunn- 6’4 Southlake Carol- Texas Elite.
Jayden is a trick of all trades, can shoot it, pass, dribble, and also rebound exceptionally well. He’s athletic enough to leap above everyone and grab rebounds. Offensive rebounds is what caught my eye, Jayden keep his team in the game by coming up with big rebound, after rebound. Look for him to make the top shooters list as well. Jayden will have a great senior season if he keeps this energy up on the boards.
