Ezra Stargell, 2021 – Guard: The 5-foot-9 guard showed the most substance from a skills standpoint. Without scoring much (relative to his 20 points per game during the school season) Stargell was an offensive maestro. His handle was incredibly smooth and controlled, allowing him to weave through defenses in transition and in the paint. Stargell had the playmaking ability to match, as he combined his ball handling with a knack for threading passes to bigs on the block or shooters running along the three-point line.
Elijah Lambert, 2020 – Forward: Playing downhill when attacking the rim is one thing, but to do it with a 6-foot-4, solid-bodied frame made Lambert a deserving standout. There were a few missed layups here and there (granted, there were a few uncalled fouls) but Lambert got to the rim with ease, also making an appearance at the free throw stripe. His outside shot was fluid, though he hardly settled for the three when pitted against smaller defenders.
Trey Jenkins, 2021 – Guard: Today’s top gunner was Jenkins, an obvious fact after he was let loose in the first game of the day. He drilled a handful of treys in transition, also spotting up in the half-court and connecting on a series of mind-spinning combo moves. His length gave him a major advantage in that arena as well, allowing him to shoot when contested.
Tre Gordon, 2021 – Guard: When you’re the cousin of former Wisconsin Badger running back Melvin Gordon, you’re going to be held to a high athletic and skill standard. Tre meets the expectation, his athleticism shown by mid-drill jams and skill blatantly obvious in his scrimmages. Gordon used his smooth stroke to tally multiple threes in each matchup, while he continually cut to open areas down low where Ezra Stargell would feed him for easy twos.
Quentin Bolton Jr., 2021 – Forward: Bolton is a 6-foot-6, linebacker-framed prospect, though today his most dominant tendencies were pull-up threes. From that sentiment, he’s quite the intriguing prospect. The forward size and guardlike playstyle make him very versatile. Look for him to use his body more as the summer progresses to identify fully with the power-forward position.
Jermaine Tomlin, 2020 – Guard: Regarded as one of Racine area’s top talents, Tomlin made sure to reinforce that high praise in today’s action. Despite cramps during the scrimmages, his ability to find the hoop on drives was an obvious takeaway. A ruthless “you can’t guard me” was added for good measure in today’s second matchup, as defenses were helpless when he attacked downhill.
Marcell Drone, 2021 – Center: Besides Patrick Suemnick, Drone is the only big man that could hold his own in the trenches of division-one hoops. His size and physicality are the main reasons, as the 6-foot-7 center could muscle through limbs and crashing defenders. His mid-range touch and mobility at his size are also above-average and should be held in high esteem by recruiters.
