Standouts From World Hoops Top 100 High School Showcase
On Saturday at Westosha High School, some of the top prospects from southeast Wisconsin gathered to participate in the World Hoops Top 100 High School Showcase. Players competed in drills, weight training, and scrimmages throughout the day. Here are my standouts from the event:
JaKobe Thompson- 2021 Point Guard
Thompson is on the cusp of becoming a top ten junior in Wisconsin’s 2021 class. Currently ranked just outside the top ten at twelve, Thompson boosted his stock significantly during scrimmages. As the best pure scorer in the gym, Thompson had some creative finishes around the rim and showed off his flashy athleticism. Although the point guard wasn’t able to get his jumpers to fall during the game— he didn’t let that slow him down. Thompson finished with 21 points in a win during the first matchup.
Rebounding the ball and leading the break with an outlet pass isn’t something a point guard would typically do, but Thompson did just that. Grabbing rebounds and immediately chucking the ball out to his teammates was something that the 6’1″ guard did commonly on Saturday. Thompson’s aptitude for scoring allowed him to lead Racine Case in points per game as a sophomore, expect more from him during his junior season.
Patrick Suemnick- 2019 Power Forward
Sumenick dominated Saturday in every facet. In the drills, he showed off his shooting skills and fundamentals. In the games, he used his strength to bully his opponents in the paint. No defender was able to match the 6’8″ forward’s strength in the paint. Choosing to attend Don Bosco Prep, Sumenick will have another year to dissolve all doubts about him being talented enough to play at the D-1 level. If he continues to be ardent about improving and getting better, it is hard to imagine that a program will skip out on his potential.
Jaeden Zackery- 2019 Point Guard
Already with a robust reputation, Jaeden Zackery was one of the top prospects registered for the World Hoops Top 100 High School Showcase. And he didn’t disappoint on Saturday. There was no doubt that the most complete guard at the event was Zackery. Passing, shooting, rebounding, he does it all. The hard wired point guard showed off all of his skills during the scrimmages on Saturday afternoon. Heading to Scotland Campus Prep Academy next year will allow Zackery to make one final argument on why he should be a D-1 prospect.
Jeremiah Suber- 2020 Guard
A talented all-around scorer, Suber did a nice job of getting to the basket on Saturday. The guard can also has a nice jumper from the outside. Playing in 19 games last year at Kenosha Indian Trail, Suber scored 7.4 points per game. Attracting some serious interest from multiple D-3 programs, a solid senior season will surely allow Suber to snag some college offers.
Dontrell Bush- 2022 Guard
Dontrell Bush does many good things on the offensive end of the court. He can make open shots, finish at the basket around taller players, and create offense for himself or his teammates. All of these skills were on display on Saturday. If Bush improves some more, he could make his debut in the 2022 class rankings for Wisconsin.
