Arguably the biggest breakout performer in Madison two weeks ago, Meyer started picking up interest from head coach Greg Gard and UW.
“He said he really liked the way I played,” Meyer told Prep Hoops Wisconsin. “He’s going to recruit me, but not going to offer right away. He really likes my potential. He told me to keep working hard and there’s a chance I could pick up an offer from them in the future.”
As a sophomore, Meyer averaged 11.2 points per game. A quickly developing post prospect, Meyer also win the WIAA Division 2 state high jump championship in track and field.
Following UW’s camp, Meyer picked up his first scholarship offer from Pat Baldwin and UW-Milwaukee.
“It was outstanding to feel the hard working paying off,” Meyer said. “It was a dream come true.”
“They think I fit the role they want as a player,” Meyer continued. “I can shoot outside and finish inside. They like that I’m a dual threat.”
Meyer’s father also played for the Panthers.
“He really liked it and was happy for me,” Meyer explained. “At the same time, he’s going to support me 100 percent no matter what my decision is.”
Miami (OH), Northern Iowa, and UW-Green Bay are also showing interest in Meyer this summer. Offer No. 2 could come later in June if Meyer continues to play well.
“Miami said they’re very interested in me,” he said. “They know I’m a good player, but they want to get a better look at me. They invited me to their camp. I might head down there and show them what I can do.”
Meyer, who plays with Wisconsin Playground Club during the travel season, plans to thoroughly explore all of his options throughout his recruitment.
“Just a college I’m comfortable playing basketball at and I’ll be able to pursue my degree academically,” he said.
