Continue Reading2021 Louisburg High School guard Elijah Jamison is beginning to really see his recruitment blow up. The 6-foot-3 guard recently received his second Division 1 offer from James Madison in the past week and as he continues to develop his game, he’s one prospect from The Hoop State that has a chance to blossom into a high-major prospect. On Tuesday, I was able to catch up with Jamison to break down his game and more in my debut series: “In Their Own Words”.
Q: Breakdown Elijah Jamison’s game. What are your strengths? What are some things you’re working on?
Elijah Jamison: One of my biggest strengths are being able to get to the basket anytime I like. I have a solid midrange game and my 3-point shot is something I’m improving upon. Some things I’m working on is, of course, my jump shot to keep it consistent and then pretty much everything.
Q: How’s the recruitment process going? You recently received your second D1 offer from James Madison, who else is pursuing you the most?
EJ: Some schools that are pursuing me the most are Oklahoma State, UNC-Greensboro and pretty much all the mid-major schools in the North Carolina area right now.
Q: What are some personal goals you have for yourself and the team this season?
EJ: One of my biggest goals this year is I want to average a triple-double this year, I don’t want to just score. Everybody knows I can score so right now, it’s more about showing my intangibles. As a team, I think every year we’ve improved. Two years ago we made it to the first round of states, last year, we made it to the second round. Each year, I just want to build on that.
What’s the biggest aspect of your game you’re working on?
EJ: The biggest aspect of my game I’m working on is my jump shot all around the floor. As I’ve spoken to more scouts and evaluators, they’ve told me, if I work on my jump shot, then I’ll basically be unstoppable.
Q: What would be your ideal college to attend?
EJ: My ideal college would be somewhere where I can boogie kind of. Be the point guard that distributes the ball and does a little bit of everything. Somewhere I can lock up 94-feet. It’s not an aspect of my game I show often on the high school side, but in AAU, it’s something I take pride in.
Jamison averaged 28.5 points, 9.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.7 steals per game during his sophomore season. While he’ll really have to adjust to get more assists, it will allow him to preserve his energy a bit more for what’s to come. He takes on a lot of responsibility for his squad and does it with a great attitude. Keep an eye out for his recruitment to start blowing up soon.
