The tournament began back on June 3rd and Jabari Smith Jr., Dillon Hunter, and Pace Academy head coach Sharman White have been out of town and out of the country since May 22nd, back when training camp began.
Both 2021 F Jabari Smith Jr. of Sandy Creek High School and 2022 PG Dillon Hunter of Westlake High School, receive their first ever gold medal representing their country. Smith Jr. played the most consisent between the two and probably opened a lot of people’s eyes with his fluid game on the court. Jabari averaged 13.8 points per game while snagging down 6.2 rebounds per game in USA’s six games in Brazil.
For the now sophomore point guard Dillon Hunter, his impact came on the defensive end of the floor. Hunter averaged 2.7 steals per game and proved he holds active hands defensively and is always locked in on the defensive side of the ball. Both Smith Jr. and Hunter will make their way back to the states and rest up before the July live period and summer portion of this AAU season.
Jabari Smith Jr. has received an invited to compete in the famous NBA Top 100 Camp that is set to begin this Tuesday at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia and end next Sunday June 16th. His status of attending is unclear for now. Both Hunter and Smith Jr. and coach White all deserve some well needed rest before next month.
