College Commitment: Collin Warmouth (2019 Roseburg HS)
Collin Warmouth is staying at home. The all-around 6-foot-4, 175-pound wing had looked at a number of options, one of which was heading out to a place many would call paradise. But when it came down to it, Western Oregon was the perfect fit for the state’s 6A leading scorer this past season and he’s ready to be a part of a brand new program there in Monmouth.
“After I took my visit, I really liked the campus and I liked the guys,” Warmouth said. “And when they named the new head coach, I talked to him and I decided I wanted to go there. I think he’s got a lot of energy and he’s really fun and young.”
Warmouth originally made his visit to Western Oregon between coaches as Jim Shaw had left to take an assistant job at Western Washington and it was before current head coach Wes Pifer was named the new leader of the Wolves. As things were getting sorted out with the coaching situation, Warmouth made a visit to Chaminade in Hawaii – which had offered him a full ride – and he enjoyed his time out there. But in the end after Warmouth got a chance to chat with Phifer and the offer was made, the Roseburg graduate knew he found the right fit.
“On offense he gives a lot of freedom just to play and I think that fits in with me really well,” Warmouth said. “And he demands on defense which I also think I can do for sure. Being able to guard one through four effectively, that plays into my skill set well.”
Warmouth notes that he’ll be continuing to hone his shooting to get ready for the level of play in the GNAC. He led 6A in scoring last season at 27.9 points per game and set several Roseburg school records along the way. He currently ranks as the #22 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2019 rankings.
