This past weekend, the MAP Sports Facility in Anaheim, CA played host to the Prep Hoops Circuit’s Hustle in the Sun. Here’s a look at some of the top post players I witnessed who participated in the event.
1. Makur Maker – Dream Vision 17U
The younger cousin of Detroit Piston Thon Maker, this young big man is going to have his pick of Division 1 schools. He’s come a long way in his development since he first came to the United States. He’s gotten a lot stronger and is a tremendous athlete. His footwork in the post has improved a lot and he’s very active around the rim. A legit seven-footer, while he can do damage down low, he’s got a very versatile offensive game.
2. JT Tan – Los Angeles Elite Hollingsworth 17U
The 2020 big man from Rolling Hills Prep is a force in the paint. He’s quick in the post, opting to attack his defender immediately rather than allow the defense to get set. He’s got some nice spin moves with his back to the basket and soft touch around the rim. His teammates can throw the ball in to him for a basket. On the defensive end, he’s an interior anchor and decent shot blocker.
3. Isaiah Cottrell – Dream Vision 17U
Cottrell is an athletic 4-man with a nice soft touch. The rising big man from Bishop Gorman has drawn plenty of interest from Division 1 schools. He’s very athletic and has good hands catching passes from his teammates. He’s very active around the rim and has a nice touch when scoring the basketball. He crashes the glass hard and is great at finishing put-backs. Defensively, he is a shot blocker, and he alters many more shots that he doesn’t block.
4. Yorgo Bor Harb – Nevada Hard 2 Guard 17U
The junior from Calvary Chapel has good feel for playing in the post. He doesn’t rush things, preferring to establish position and take his time when making a move in the post. He sometimes draws double teams and is adept passing out of them to reset the offense. He catches passes from his teammates well and they look for him in the paint. He’s a good finisher around the rim once he gets a look at the basket.
5. Dallas James – The Truth EYBL 17U
The seven foot big man from Inglewood just completed his senior season in high school and is yet to be signed. He’s long and active around the rim. He gets most of his points off of second chance opportunities by crashing the offensive glass and finishing put backs at the rim. He’s got good hands and is constantly making himself visible near the rim. He did show a couple of post moves with good footwork and some nice step through moves.
