Continue ReadingAfter suffering a cardiac arrest this past summer, David Skogman had reached the nadir of his basketball career. Unsure if he would ever get to step foot on a basketball court again, Skogman was lucky to still be alive. After his long road to recovery, Skogman is coming off a historic senior season and with alacrity, he recently announced his commitment to the University of Buffalo.
Prep Hoops Wisconsin was able to get in contact with the newest Buffalo Bull and ask him a couple questions about his commitment.
With multiple high-major scholarship offers on the table, Skogman said: “(Buffalo stood out because of their) Coaching Staff, teammates, campus/academics, what they’ve been able to accomplish these past years.” In the past two years, Buffalo was one of the top programs in all of college basketball. The Bulls knocked out heavily favored Arizona in last year’s NCAA Tournament and lost just four games in the 2018-19 season. Skogman will look to continue Buffalo’s tremendous success into the next couple seasons.
In his senior season, Skogman scored 18.3 points per game while leading Waukesha West to a conference championship and a #1 seed in the WIAA State tournament. Despite this, the 6’10” center says that he would like to improve his back to the basket game and his lateral quickness. As for Skogman’s strengths, he believes that he is a proficient shooter, shot blocker, and athlete.
Skogman dragged out his recruiting process for quite a long time, but he finally found his school. “(The recruiting process) It was long and exciting.” When he finally knew Buffalo was his future school, Skogman said that he was “really excited” and that it felt amazing.
There are many ways to describe David Skogman’s game, but choppy would not be one of them. Making everything look way easier than it should, Skogman can knock down jumpers and handle the ball very well for his size. In this new age of basketball, His approach to the game should allow him to translate his skills over to the college level perfectly. Just as he did in high school, expect Skogman to etch a name out for himself in college.
