While most of the action was happening over at the Mamba Sports Academy in Thousand Oaks, there was also quite a bit of talent on display at nearby Oaks Christian High School and Moorpark High School.
The opening day of action on March 29 at Moorpark featured some top up and coming talent in the 14U and 13U divisions. While many of these young players haven’t yet set foot on a high school court, there’s no denying their talent.
Here’s a look at some of the top standout scorers from that first day of HustleSZNKickoff.
1 Christopher Galvan – HD Basketball 14U White 2023
The young forward from Lindero Middle School in Agoura Hills, CA displayed a nice offensive repertoire on the first night. He was clearly head and shoulders above anyone else on the court as a scorer. He has great body control and was able to finish multiple plays while absorbing contact and drawing a foul. He’s got good shooting range, and can even throw down a dunk or two.
2 Peter Gray – HD Basketball 14U Red 2023
A talented forward from Alice C Stelle Middle School, Gray showed off a nice offensive game especially close to the basket. One of the tallest players on the court for his age group, he is comfortable seeing over his smaller defenders and getting easy baskets around the rim. He can also put the ball on the floor and attack at times, as well as step out and shoot from distance.
3 Kyle Perry – Legion Of Hoops 14U 2023
The incoming freshman at Casteel High School showed off a very well-rounded offensive game. He was very comfortable with the ball in his hands and being able to create his own shot from anywhere on the floor. He runs the court well in transition and is able to finish with contact. He’s a great mid-range shooter too and employs the step-back jumper well.
4 Robert Bush – Truth OC 13U 2024
This young big still has another year left of middle school at Clifton before entering the high school ranks, but he does have a bright future ahead of him. He has a nice touch in the paint where he’s able to use his size to get where he wants and bully defenders. While he’s still a clear work in progress, he can finish at the rim. He also is a good rebounder, especially on the offensive end, creating second shot opportunities for himself.
5 David Mack – Truth OC 13U 2024
Another standout from The Truth, this young guard also has another year of middle school at Heritage Christian. At 5’5, and going up against taller players, what stood out the most was his ability to get into the paint and score over bigger defenders. He, like his teammate Mack, is also able to position himself well in the paint and secure offensive rebounds for second chance points.
