It’s important for teams to have a good playmaker, someone who is capable of running the offense and getting other players shots and looks where they’re most comfortable.
At the opening weekend of the Prep Hoops Circuit HustleSZNKickoff, there certainly were a few talented playmakers on display. While most of the action was taking place at the Mamba Sports Academy, there were a few standouts at Oaks Christian High School and Moorpark High School.
1 Mason Dorsey – California Raptors 2022
The young forward just finished up his freshman year at Crespi, and heading into his second season, he looks primed to take a big leap, especially as a playmaker. While he can score, he definitely looked comfortable initiating the offense. He found his teammates multiple times cutting to the rim or spotting up for a perimeter jumper. He often brought the ball up court set everything up.
2 Jaden Hirasawa – California Raptors 2022
Dorsey’s teammate on the Cali Raptors, the young guard also just finished his freshman season at Crespi High School. Coming off the bench, Hirasawa showed great poise in stabilizing the second unit. He ran the floor well, took care of the basketball, and displayed his court vision in finding his teammates for easy baskets.
3 Jordan Collins – KC Hoopers 14U 2023
The incoming freshman from John F. Kennedy High School in Hanford, CA displayed a nice facilitating game in his team’s big win. He’s still small in terms of size, but he makes up for it with his playmaking ability. He controlled the offense well and as he continues to grow in terms of height, his playmaking should only get better.
4 #5 – Fastbreak Hoops 13U
We actually couldn’t find a name for this young player, but he showed off a different side of being a playmaker. Many playmakers are often strong in the half-court set, setting up the offense when the defense is already set. He stood out with his ability to find his teammates in the open court. He was good at running the break and recognizing his teammates being in position to score.
5 Jayden Creavalle – Team Eleate 13U 2024
The young guard from San Jacinto Valley Academy still has another year before he gets to high school, but he’s on track to be a solid facilitating guard. He’s already got good size for a guard despite still being in middle school. He’s comfortable with the ball in his hands and as he grows as a player, should develop into a nice playmaker.
