Most of the upper-division games were at Mamba Sports Academy, while the lower divisions were at the other locations. Here’s a look at some of the top scorers from the final day at Moorpark High School.
1 Jaeden Moore – KC Hoopers 14U 2023
This young big man is going to be a freshman in high school this upcoming season. He did display a well-rounded offensive game for a big. His talent was on display throughout the entire event, but it was the third day he shined. He has a knack for scoring around the rim in the paint. He can see over most defenders in his age group. He’s got a work in progress midrange jump shot and he’s a good rebounder.
2 Elijah Flores – Team Eleate 14U 2023
Another incoming freshman for this upcoming season, he already has good size for his age group. He’s relentless on the offensive end. He’s very comfortable attacking the rim and drawing contact to get himself to the free-throw line. Even if he doesn’t get the whistle, he can still absorb the contact from his defender and finish the play.
3 Bryce Jacobson – HD Basketball 14U White 2023
This young big man is still very raw, which is to be expected considering he’s going to be entering his first year of high school. But he did show intriguing potential when it comes to playing in the low post. The instincts are there, what comes next is being able to fine tune his skill. Right now he uses his size to get easy looks in the post and his teammates look for him. What he’ll need to improve upon is being able to get good post position to be able to score more efficiently.
4 #4 Team Creation 14U
Another player that we were unable to find his name, he also showed off a nice ability to score. A big part of being a good scorers is the ability to get to the free-throw line. It’s free points on the board and a great skill to have. This young player was key at being able to do that. He put a lot of pressure on the defense by attacking the rim and getting himself to the line. He could finish plays with contact. Once he got to the free-throw line, he shot well from there.
5 Jordan Childress – Hardwork Dedication 14U 2024
Childress was a standout throughout the entire event. During the first time I saw him play, he was impressive when it came to controlling his body and finishing plays in the lane while drawing contact. He also was able to stay with his shot if he missed and secure an offensive rebound. But what stood out the next time I saw him play was his ability to create his own shot, not just in the paint. He was able to read the defense and get jumpers for himself out on the wing.
