Commitments:
- Paducah Tilghman shooter Rodriguez Thomas accepted a preferred walk-on spot with Tennessee-Martin yesterday. Thomas finished a great career for the Blue Tornadoes and can help UT-M down the line.
- Tates Creek wing forward Deonte Edmonds committed to Western Oklahoma State College. WOSC is a junior college and Edmunds could really raise his stock there over the next two seasons.
- Caldwell County combo guard Derrin Boyd will be taking his talents to Georgetown College for the next 4 years. Boyd leaves Caldwell County as one of the best to play there.
- Scott High wing Trey Meister is headed to Capital University. Capital is a D3 school. Meister was a hot name in recruiting over last summer.
- Henry Clay Point Guard Keaston Brown committed to Tusculum University over the weekend. Tusculum is a D2 school coached by former St. Catherine coach JT Burton.
Offers:
- Perry County Central Shooter Noah Back earned an offer from D2 Glenville State.
- Henry Clay Junior Marques Warrick Marques Warrick 6'3" | SG Henry Clay | 2020 State #365 Nation KY has been offered by NAIA powerhouse Georgetown College.
Sweet 16 Parting Shots:
- Congrats to Trinity on winning the state title. David Johnson was a beast all tournament long and showed himself to be one of the best players to come through Kentucky in recent years. I expect he will start at Louisville next season.
- Madisonville’s Kenny White Kenny White 6'7" | SF Madisonville-North Hopkins | 2020 State #357 Nation KY started getting massive amounts of praise for his two game performance at Rupp. The 6’7 forward finally showed his full potential and if he can do that all summer, he could and likely should be getting high major offers by July.
- After 24 minutes, Scott County rode a 4 point lead and giant wave of momentum into the 4th quarter on Sunday but then only scored 2 points in about a 6 minute stretch while Trinity ran away with the game. Why? Because, in my opinion, the wrong people were taking the shots for the Cards. Michael Moreno had single coverage in the post with no back side help and the guards didn’t feed him the ball. For a team that played inside-out for Moreno’s entire career, they suddenly started shooting too many threes and not crashing the offensive glass. Long rebounds on missed jumpers allowed Trinity to get out in transition and Outscore Scott County 21-7 in the 4th.
- Looking ahead to next season, most of the state’s best teams are graduating their core players in May and will be in rebuild/reload mode. Trinity, Scott County, Campbell County, Mayfield, Lincoln County, Perry County Central, Covington Catholic, Ashland Blazer, John Hardin and Walton-Verona all graduate massive pieces to their team. Madisonville could ride the Sweet 16 experience into being the favorite to win it all next year and there could be a whole lot of new faces in Rupp Arena next March.
